Growth and Fixed Mindsets

What are Growth and Fixed Mindsets?

“If you imagine less, less will be what you undoubtedly deserve,” Debbie Millman counseled in one of the best commencement speeches ever given, urging: “Do what you love, and don’t stop until you get what you love”. “Work as hard as you can, imagine immensities…”. This advice actually reflects what modern psychology knows about how our belief systems and our own abilities and potential fuel of our behavior, predicts our success! In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. Brains and talent are just the starting point as this view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort.

My Fixed Mindsets

Sometimes I have felt like I can’t do something, but most of the time I try to change these into growth mindsets:

Cricket, Singing, Dancing.
