My Utopia Reflection

During terms 2 and 3 we had to make a utopia that only uses sustainable things for our utopia these are the things we had to do to get to the final product.

First, we read the giver this helped us get an understanding of our utopia. The reason we read the giver was to see what we should have and what we shouldn’t have in ours. this helped us get an understanding of what we want our community to act like.

In HASS we also looked at subjective and objective liveability factors. Subjective factors are something you can’t measure for example location. if someone wanted to live in the city or countryside. another example is climate. if someone wants to live in a cold climate or hot climate. Objective factors are something you can measure for example safety and stability. the reason you would want this is that you don’t want a community that doesn’t have safety or stability because everybody has a right to live peacefully and without fear. All the things we did in HASS tied into the giver.

Secondly, we made a sustainable house for our communities. in our house we would need to have renewable energy sources that would help prevent pollution in the environment. Some of the renewable energy sources were water-saving features and behaviors and energy-saving features and behaviors. The parts of this project I enjoyed were working with my group and being able to share our ideas. I also liked putting a plan in place and then being able to produce a physical model of our sustainable house. What I found challenging was presenting our work to the class because it was difficult to make a PowerPoint and learn it in a short period of time.

Thirdly, we had to make a presentation about our utopia using PVLEGS. PVLEGS stands for poise, voice, life, eye contact, gestures, and speed. It was challenging to make a presentation that couldn’t go over 2 minutes. It was fun to be able to give feedback and receive feedback from my group members. All around this process was really fun but challenging.

fourthly, we made our constitution. When we were making our constitution, we had to have in mind that we were making a community, so we had to know what we needed to help the community grow. Instead of doing things that would just suit the things that we needed and wanted. I enjoyed working with my group and making sure we can make the best constitution we could make for our community. The thing I found hard was to make sure that everything we said made sense in and to make sure that it all flowed correctly into every paragraph. What I could have done better was probably reading back over my work.

Fifthly, in innovate ED We had to make a physical or virtual model of our utopia. In my group, we decided to go with the physical model. In this, we had to go off by the map we built in connective learning of our utopia. This was quite challenging because if you wanted to make any major changes to your utopia you would have to change the map. I loved being able to change some things in our utopia or make them better by the physical model. It was also quite challenging to figure out the way we were going to make the structures we designed to be able to put into our utopia. These are the things we could make our building out of. laser cutting, plasticine, and Cardboard. it was challenging to pick the three things but, in the end, we went for Laser cutting and plasticine. The reason we chose these materials is that they were the easiest resources to get.

In conclusion, the whole utopia project was very challenging but very fun at the same time. I loved how we got to interact and tell people about what we have learned and what we have built-in class.
