The Dingo Trial

Lindy and Azaria Chamberlain before the gruesome killing

Principles of justice

Several principles are in place to offer everyone a fair trial, no matter, your race, gender, or nationality they are ignored for you to get a fair trial. These are important for the law to be enforced fairly. An example of this means that everyone is alike in the eyes of the law, meaning that no one should be treated differently and always be treated the same as others. Another example would be that everyone has a right to appeal if they are found guilty. The case I picked is the case of Azaria Chamberlain, who was a young girl who was taken by dingos and allegedly murdered by her mother. The media accused her mother and the media was responsible for making the general public biased against Lindy Chamberlain(her mother), even the Australian police force was biased against her. this leads to the first violation, a right to a fair hearing. With all the media coverage the jury’s opinion was quickly turned biased. Also, she wasn’t given the presumption of innocence. With the corruption of the Australian police force, she was presumed a criminal even before she was convicted.

The Violation of the Presumption of Innocents

the police failing to presume her innocence had greatly affected Lindy’s case in many ways such as immediately arresting her without evidence. the investigation that result in Lindy’s conviction, started from a gone wrong camping trip where lindy’s daughter Azaria Chamberlain went missing from her tent. when the police arrived they could see no evidence that a forced entry was made so they immediately decided to go with their theory of Lindy Chamberlain was the culprit. the police officer at the scene had overstepped quite a lot of the evidence that was right in front of their noses and were so sure that it was her that they decide to go straight to the media to inform them of what they thought was happening. Ultimately these police officers blew the entire case by violating the presumption of innocents and persuading an entire country that she was guilty. this proves the amount of corruption in the Australian police force.

The effect of not having a fair hearing

The principle of a fair hearing was violated during the Lindy Chamberlain case. A fair hearing means that an individual gets a neutral judge and jury that isn’t biased in any way. It was really obvious that at least the jury was biased in the favour of the prosecution. The huge amount of media coverage surrounding the case had ultimately reached the jury. This had really effected her chances in the fight for justice as the people that would ultimately decide her fate had already made their minds on the facts they heard from the media instead of what was presented to them in court. The actions of the jury and media completely ignored a basic principle such as a fair hearing shows how much this principle was ignored.

Summary

Overall this case was really, biased against Miss. Chamberlain as the corrupt police and the vast amount of coverage in the letter resulting in the jury becoming biased against her had really, turned the case into an unfair and had violated the most basic of principles of justice. In my opinion, Lindy’s case was coordinated very poorly and much drama could be avoided if the police and media weren’t so slow and incompetent in the way that they respected the principles of justice. as a result, she was unjustly accused of destroying her entire life. she later sues the government for gaining 1.3 million dollars, but she later stated that nothing would ever replace what she had lost.

Aquaponics

Story of my Aquaponics journey:

during my Aquaponics journey, I was assigned to take care of a !!!WORM FARM!!! I was really excited about it because I really enjoyed gardening and this was an aspect of gardening that I found interesting. since we had the worm i have felt more zen because taking care of the garden has help me to remove all my negative thoughts and be more cool with things.

the main challenge that we had when taking care of the worms is that ants had infested that farm and ate all the worm food, leaving all the worms to starve. but we took care of that problem by sparing down the area that surrounded that worm farm and put methylated spirits in the legs of the worm farm.

A plus side of the worm farm was the worm tea that could be used on the plant as a natural fertilizer. also the fact that we did throw away food scraps that later got to lad fill and produce methane. it was a healthier option for both the environment and human it was a win, win.

Utopia reflection

Project Utopia was a task where students had to try and create a perfect world to live in. The first step was to draft a copy of their perfect world on a piece of paper. Then students were allocated a partner to redesign their world together. After that students had the choice of doing it online or hard copy. Next accreditations had to be obtained. For this to happen they had to find an idea and share it with a supervisor and if it was acceptable, accreditation was given to them and a card issued. The final steps involved writing a speech and making visual aids such as a brochure or power point  presentation.

In the beginning I found it challenging when having to adjust my draft copy with my partner to make one big one. However, collaborating with a partner made it significantly easier to complete each task because we allocated tasks according to our strengths. Through this we realized that each of us had different strengths and we were able to compliment each other. For example when it came to technology, I was more equipped to complete the tasks involved. When it came to writing the speech my partner was great at getting our ideas in down in a logical format. I learned that while working with someone has a few challenges, there were far more benefits to listening and considering someone else’s ideas not just my own.

I thought that our accreditation process was successful. We each compromised some time to think about ways to get accredited in. for instance, Evan and I had to find an idea that would work to get accredited, for goal 1, no poverty. We decided to do that if somebody moves out of their house, the government will take it back and give it to somebody less fortunate than them. The government will then pay for the rent, food, water, electricity, e.g. until the homeless person has got a job and has the right amount of education (if needed) to get the most out of their life. My experience during this prosses giving up time for the more important thing can go a long way it you put your heart into it.

I conclusion I think that every year teachers make students do the utopia project because it is a great learning opportunity and it helps student think outside the box and solve challenges. It also helps their ability to problem solve, organise them selves and their compromiseation skills. It is also a fun project that makes students look forward to their education.
