2019 –
Last year in year 7, I participated and won the Year 7-8 student art award in the annual fundraising exhibition for Nulsen (they provide disability services and support) where we use our creative minds to make and donate artworks that would be sold at an online auction with all sales given to Nulsen. The focus that year was to use recycled materials as part of our artwork which I fully immersed in by making my whole entire artwork from the recycled materials!
After registering to receive a canvas, it didn’t take too long to find inspiration for my artwork. Following the idea of recycling and the theme of Re-Connected, my inspiration was that technology is made from earth and returns back to the earth whether it may be a good or bad way, leading to my name of the artwork Tech back to Earth. With every journey, came with it its own set of problems, mistakes and mind blanks along the way, but how you deal with that is the most important thing. I how I dealt with them was remembering why I was doing it and some self encouragement to keep going, which is can also be put as resilience. It was a really fun project to manipulate materials and explore making my own artwork to donate the profit to people less fortunate than us. I definitely encourage more people to participate in this fundraising art exhibition in the future, named Connected5 this year.
I unexpectedly won the 7&8 student art award with the $50 Oxlades (art supply store) voucher which I was very honored to receive. But it’s always important to remember that in fundraising events like these, even through there’s a prize, your aim should be for the benefit of the people you’re fundraising for not for yourself.
