Christmas Market Reflection

During Term 4, we worked on a term long project, the Christmas Market. The Christmas Market is an event where us year 7’s get to start our own business and sell them on 18/11/2022 at lunchtime on the Common to year 5, year 6’s, year 8’s, year 9’s and teachers. This project was very exciting and we got to learn many valuable skills in this business opportunity.

Our first step was to brainstorm ideas for our business in our groups that we had formed. My group consisted of me, Ethan, Jack Z and Shaan. We originally going to create a memory board game made out of cardboard, but unfortunately this idea was rejected. Then we thought of the idea of a fridge magnet. To make one, we would get milk caps, stick magnets underneath them and then finally put cardboard and drawings on the top of the milk cap. This idea was accepted. Below is our word document for our ideas in detail

To make our actual products, we first needed to find out the cost to make all of the products. We chose to make 40 products, and our total production cost to make the 40 magnets was $24.70. We planned out everything, and found out where we could buy them, and how much. Then, each of us went to either Bunnings or Kmart to buy them

Then we decided to go to Ethan’s house to make the products. We spend 4 hours making them, and created everything we needed. We cut out cardboard, glued on magnets, and had a great time creating them.

Finally, it was time of the actual Christmas market. Unfortunately on that day, the weather wasn’t very good, and it was raining slightly, so instead of being on the Common as normally it would, we were in the verandas around Common

Capabilities.

During the process of the Christmas Market, we learnt many capabilities along the way. Some of the most important capabilities included problem solving, resilience and collaboration. We had to problem solve many things for our group, because we encountered many problems, like hot glue leaking out. We also had to be resilient, as sometimes we felt like giving up because of all the thing that weren’t going well. We also had to collaborate very much as we worked together in our groups to create our products.

Design Thinking Process

For the design thinking process, we though about the target audience, and the stakeholders that we were targeting for. For us, this was the year 5’s and year 6’s. Then we had to define and ideate. This meant we were brainstorming ideas, and thinking of what we could do. In the end, we went with the idea of magnets. Then we brought in a prototype. Shaan had a prototype from home, and we used that as a model. Finally, we made the actual thing at Ethan’s house in the morning

Nexus – Connected Learning

My favourite thing that I learnt in this Connected Learning session was creating the a video. Our first thing we did, was to brainstorm an idea. We needed to start with an idea, and we eventually finally created an idea. Next, our group got a Sony Handycam and we filmed our scenes. The next Connected Learning session, we put together the scenes and then edited it on Adobe Premiere Rush. We cut our scenes to the desired length, and then we add sound effects and overlays.

Our final video.

What did we learn?

During this media project, we learnt to collaborate in our groups. We worked together to create a video. If we didn’t work together, then we wouldn’t be able to create together. We also learnt many valuable skills from this video, such as how to edit on Adobe Premiere Rush. Next time if I do this, I would try to make the editing better, while also making the camera shots more clearer and less background noise.

Project Utopia Reflection

Over last few terms, we have started on a project called ‘Project Utopia’. Project Utopia is a thing that we did, in which we collaborated with the Future of Fremantle. As you might have known, Fremantle Port is moving in 2030 to Kwinana. Our project was to redesign this area, and we developed many skills during this project. For this project, we have worked in groups to create vision boards and then in Term 3 Week 9, we presented our ideas to parents who were willing to come and listen

First we started with the Giver book. The Giver was a book by Louis Lowry who talked about a world which was a perfect ‘utopia’. In English lessons, we analysed this book. This was the very start of our Project Utopia start. We explored the pros and cons the the main character’s world, and the meanings of it too.

Next, we officially launched Project Utopia when the Future of Fremantle committee came and gave a presentation of the area that was moving. The image outline in red was all going to move, and so the space would be all plain. Our task in Project Utopia was to apply our understanding of liveability and urbanisation, learnt from our HASS lessons, and to redesign this area as a whole class

After, we went on a excursion to Fremantle so that we could look at the place that we were redesigning, and get a sense of how large the place was. We each received booklets on the day (right), where we would answer questions about our observations and our wonders.

We splits into groups of 3-4, and brainstormed 100 ideas in 10 minutes for things that we might have used in it. We aimed to have lots and lots of things to incorporate into the design of Fremantle.

Next, we made vision boards in our same group. Vision boards are boards that have little to no words, and aim to present ideas in a very visual way. These vision boards at the end of Term 2 were presented to parents so that they could see what project utopia was about

After finishing creating ideas in our groups, we got together as a class and we brainstormed all the ideas that we need to incorporate into our class design. We made a document, with a table that was split into 7 big sections. Each sections had lots if ideas related to that topic that we were going to put into the new Fremantle. For example, under the ‘Sustainability’ section, we had lots of ideas such as green spaces, interactive sculptures, solar panels and floating wind farms to name a few. All of these were going to be incorporated some way into our class design. Below is our full list of ideas.

After officially deciding what we were going to incorporate into our Fremantle redesign, we officially started building a to-scale 3D model of the place. The final model was split into 7 pieces, and half the class used hot glue, wool, plastic and other materials to create this model

Meanwhile, the the other half of the class were creating things in a computer program called Cospace. Cospace is a tool that lets people create 360° virtual worlds. Some of the things that were created in Cospace were the film studio, the floating wind farms, and the interactive sculptures

On the final day of our Project Utopia, we presented our idea of the Fremantle redesign. Instead of simply calling it the Fremantle redesign, we created a name for it, which was Binowee Yaringa, which in Noongar means ‘green place by the sea’. We presented this to parents who wanted to come in the morning. We had created speeches presenting our ideas, and talked to them about our new place Binowee Yaringa

What did we learn from this?

Over the course of this project, we learnt many capabilities throughout Project Utopia. The main capabilities were collaboration, effective communication, problem solving and organisation. We had to collaborate a lot in our groups of 3-4 to brainstorm possible ideas. Along our way in Project Utopia, we encountered many bumps and obstacles. We had to problem solve and find ways or methods to solve that. This was very important, and we were very resilient in this. We also had to be organized in our ideas. We created many things, and had to organize our time and make sure that our models in real life, and our 3D virtual models were finished before the showcase. And finally we improved on our effect communication capability, as we had to present our Fremantle redesign in a effective way to parents who knew little to nothing about the port moving.

All Saints’ Capabilities Wheel

ACC Athletics Team

On Thursday 15th September, me and about 200 other people went the HBF stadium to participate in the ACC Interschool Athletics carnival. This was a carnival with 8 other schools in which we competed in. My event was the 400m track event. Throughout the event we stayed at the Stadium, and cheered on many other people. This was great fun, and we also got to witness many achievements. I tried my hardest in my event, and although didn’t get a top 3 placing, I still felt good knowing that I tried my hardest

The Agency Presentation Ceremony Video Team

I applied for a paid employment opportunity via the Agency on the 16/7/2022, and was accepted into the team. This opportunity was a term based contract, where I would be responsible for capturing video content from my year group’s academic, wellbeing and co-curricular activities. To apply, I needed a resume, a CV and my e-portfolio to successfully apply. At the end of the contract in Term 4, I would receive $100. I think that this was a great opportunity to develop some of the capabilities. Through this, I knew that I would develop collaboration skills, learn how to problem solve, and to be organised. This was vital for me, as I learnt how to schedule my times where I would film events, or when there was a problem, I had to solve it.

Semester 1 Subjects Awards

At the end of Semester 1, I received a Merit Award in Mathematics Extension for powerful thinking. This powerful thinking award is awarded to the person who has contributed in a positive way, and making a difference to the class. I think I got this award because I participated in class discussions a lot, and I responded to the teacher’s questions a few times.

ACC Cross Country

On Thursday, 2nd of June, I arrived at the CPA at 7:15am ready to go the Alderbury Reserve for the ACC Interschool Cross Country. For me, I participated in a 3km run for my event. The weather was ok, and it rained a tiny bit during my race. When I started my race, I was amazed at how much people there were at the race. There was about 300 people, all lined up ready to run 3km. I thought that this carnival was really fun, watching people run past me, and cheering for people from our school.

Viola

I started learning viola in year 5, and since then it has grown to be an important part of me. I enjoy playing my viola because it relaxes me and I can calm down. I also enjoy performing at the CPA to my family and my friends.

Playing this instrument helps me develop my resilience and my creativity. Sometimes, when I play new songs, I struggle and make mistakes, but I keep on learning, and be resilient.

At school, I play in the Amati’s Ensemble where we have lots of opportunities to perform. I go there every Thursday morning at 7:00am to 8:10am to play and enjoy it.

2021 Film Festival

The HotHouse Company had a film festival competition. A film festival is where groups of 2-4 create a short film, on a topic. In our case, our topic was ‘refugee’. Me and my other group members Nishaan Sunner and Nithin Shivakumar created a film together, that in the end we won the film festival. The prize for it was a $25 dollar JB Hi-Fi gift card.

Our video was called ‘Runaway’ and it was a poem that we wrote together. We drew the drawings at home, and then animated them on an iPad. For the background music, Nithin played Stairway to Heaven on the app ‘Garageband’ for it.

This was a great experience for us to learn some film skills, and we were very proud for winning the prize in the film festival. Below is our video
