Water Carrying Exercise

During HASS we have been learning about water situations around the world. In some places they have to walk 5ks twice a day to a well and back again. Carrying the 20 litres or more of water can cause damage to the spine and if they carry the water on their heads to their skull. We were given 15 litres of water and we had to carry it down the hill and back up with a partner. That was only around 200 metres and it was already hard so it would be really hard to carry the water for 5ks. The water that the women bring back has to last their family all day for all their needs. We also tried to scoop water from a “well” into a bucket to see how hard it would be for the women to collect water. Once they collect the water they then have to purify it because otherwise it can be very toxic to use.
