HASS Project Update No.2

Feedback that was received

Due to my absence in the first week of school, the feedback received was bias towards my partner. However there was some overall feedback that we received was to finalize our presentation idea and compare ancient war crimes with the modern war crimes. We have finalized our project idea by deciding to change to a podcast with surrounding posters. This way the audience will get a cool listening experience with the information being presented, but in a casual way.

We decided to compare the war crimes in our presentation because that way there is some relevance that perhaps our audience can use to understand better. This way it isn’t difficult to understand the war crimes that were committed hundreds of years ago.

Progress update and what we have achieved so far

Again, we have chosen to do a podcast and posters. We have achieved the task of starting our script of our podcast and constructing some ideas to use for our posters. I was away when Mr Basil suggested to my partner for me that I should look at the Crimes and Consequence in Ancient Rome. Since then, the website has been researched which brings me a deeper understanding of the harsh laws of Ancient times for crimes.

Our plan for the future

For the coming weeks, Jayden and I will be working on the script for our podcast and start to make the posters which will be presented on the night which everyone gets to see each others work. Both of us will start to record our podcast as we both have lots of free time on the weekend and plan to record it then. As for the posters, Jayden and I will start to find designs and pictures for our poster design.

Some difficulties we have found

Some difficulties that we have found was that in the absence of partners it is harder to make decisions that can impact the project. I believe that Jayden handled last week very well as it would have been difficult to make calls about the assignment. Another difficulty we have found is to decide if we are going to do single individual posters, or one continuous poster that will stretch over a few boards when pinned up.

HASS Yr 10 Term 3 & 4 Progress Update

Task Overview

Our task for this Humanities Project is to construct a presentation about two of the following areas, Economics, Civics, Geography and History. For our chosen subject areas, we decided on History and Civics which would lead to us completing thorough research on multiple questions that will take us to our next chapter in the project which for us was a 3D model. Through the rest of the year we will work on our presentation until the due date where we invited our parents in to present our creation to them.

Progress Update and what we have achieved so far

At the end of term three, Jayden and I completed our research question on his area of Civics, and my area of History. Together our research combined for about 15 questions that were thoroughly researched. We had to summarize the website and state it’s relevance in our bibliography which was told to be around 100 words each. As for the other parts of the bibliography we had to include the website, author and the date when the post on the website was published. Another thing Jayden and I achieved was gaining an understanding in each others areas of interest about the project. This lead to us having better communication throughout the week and checking up of each other to make sure we met the deadlines that were set by us. Overall the first part of our project will have a massive impact on the presentation and I believe that the early progress we have made will truly shine in our final days of the project.

Our plan for our future

The original plan for our future was to create some design/ prototype that would present all of the information that we collected. We were going to go to stores and get supplies to construct a 3D model that would present the final workings of our project. Also we will create small little pieces of information that will be around our masterpiece that will allow our audience to gain incite to this specific overall question.

Some difficulties we have found

Some difficulties my partner and I discovered whilst working was that we both intended to be quite chatty and sometimes it would lead up to going off topic and harder to focus. This would happen quite often if people around us were talking and we couldn’t concentrate properly. This problem was simply fixed by going out to the breakout space outside the classroom which was much quieter and was a better environment to work in.

Camp Kalbarri: Leadership & Traits

On my Year 9 school camp in 2020 we went to Kalbarri. We were posed to complete challenges such as carrying everything with you and going on physically demanding walks. On our first official day at Kalbarri we went into the gorge to do exploring for the entire day. Me being put in charge of the leadership role, I demonstrated good qualities that leaders should have. For example, I knew when to pull myself out of a situation to let my group figure problems out, this allowed them to expand and learn new things off one another rather than me doing all the work and them just following. This was when we had to make a path to get to a swim spot, I pointed them in the general direction and let other people lead the pack. When there was a bit that they did not know which way to go, I made suggestions based on what does the terrain look like, is it easy to walk and is it dangerous. Another example of leadership was encouraging everyone throughout the entire trip. On our hikes, especially the one to ‘Four Ways’ where we would camp, one of our members couldn’t carry his pack so me and another boy carried it for him for most of the way. There were many a time when people did not like walking because it hurt their legs, or they were bored. I gathered a few people together who were mentally stronger and ask them to help make the walk fun and distract them from their legs hurting. I used my abilities such as my voice to get my message across to many of them such as ‘Keep going we are almost there, I can see water’ or ‘The sooner we get there the longer we can rest’. These sayings inspired people to keep trekking onwards for multiple hours. Finally, the last leadership trait I presented was to sacrifice some of my food, water and other items so that other people could enjoy their camp more and so they would have a good experience. At dinner time I would let my cooking group eat as much as they wanted before I had something to eat because I knew that they were hungry. To demonstrate these attributes as a leader you have to be mentally strong and have the will to spur others on so that they can complete the task. A known fact is that when your mind says you cannot physically do something anymore, you are only 40% of your body’s full potential. It is about training yourself to push and push and to find ways to solve your problems and to not make fun of people because they can not do something as good as you. Instead you must pick these people up and bring them to your level so that they can learn and grow into a leader than demonstrates good qualities for everyone to follow.

Nulsen

Over this term we visited Nulsen at their village. We got to saw how they lived and what problem they needed our help to solve. We came up with solutions to made a electronic blog for each of the residents instead of having a book. This book contained all their activities and they barely got opened. With this new idea, it is designed for people to be kept up to date with their lives. It is sort of a Instagram/ blog app they can use. It has yet to be developed but the idea is still there waiting to come to life.
