HASS+ Progress Update 1

I am doing Pompeii for my HASS+ Project topic. I will be focusing on how the Mount Vesuvius eruption impacted the environment. I have found my 10 sources and annotated them. I think the next thing I will do is writing notes on my sources or start sourcing materials for my final product. With my final product, I have 2 different ideas of how to present my work. I can either: make a cross section of Mount Vesuvius and have informtion on the outside on a poster; or make a powerpoint with the information which can have pictures and videos within it. Which one would be better and why?

Worms POV

This is a photo of some plants which are outside the CPA.

The blurred background and focus on the foreground brings attention to the plants which makes it aesthetically pleasing.

The skills I used were resilience as I had a stick in my ribs when I was lying in the woodchips to take the photo. I didn’t put the tallest part of the plant in the middle as I wanted to use the rule of thirds which makes the photo nicer to look at.

I tired to keep the buildings and other man-made objects out of the photo to make it more natural as a worm is a part of nature.

Birds POV

This is my birds-eye-view photo which was taken from the balcony outside D1.

This photo uses the rule of thirds with where the flowers line up with one another and the green part of the plant.

For this photo I could’ve used a higher position to take the photo to get more of the plant in the frame without having the wall in the photo.

This was a good photo for me as I had to learn how to use Photoshop to brighten the red in the image as well as make the picture more vibrant and even though it took me a while and took a couple of tries, I learnt how Photoshop works and what the different adjustment tools do.

Faceless Portrait

This is my faceless portrait of me in a tree.

I like this photo because it is using the rule of thirds and leading lines to make it look more pleasing to the eye.

I think this photo is reasonably creative as I’m sitting in a tree but I think it would be more creative if I used a prop or wore a costume.

This photo was good for me as I got to learn and explore the camera and I started to get used to it.

Teamwork & Leadership

CAMP AT KALBARRI

August 2, 2020

Teamwork and leadership are two of the most important skills that you can have as a human because no matter what you do in life, you will always use them. Its doesn’t matter how hard you try not to use these skills they will always find a way to be a necessity. I think of leadership as guiding people to be their own leader or shine their own light. Teamwork is doing something in a group effectively and efficiently to achieve a common goal preferably while having fun.

This year, we went to Kalbarri for our OLP. It was packed full of fun activities and opportunities for all of us to practice our leadership and teamwork skills as well as getting to know each other. For 3 days of the camp were hiking and we had to carry all our clothes, the tent, and the food for the group. I was a leader when we went hiking through a gorge as I led the way and showed everyone an easy and safe path to follow. For our team game, we had to throw and catch a ball, over no mans land, using two tarpaulins. We, as a group of about 15, showed fantastic teamwork during the game, being the group with the most consecutive catches at 17.

We were separated into groups of four for our cooking groups. Every night, the cooking groups showed teamwork as we all helped with cooking the food and cleaning the equipment after we ate. My group, which consisted of Sarah, Kyle, Kate and myself, used our teamwork skills very well and every night we were the first group to finish dinner, leaving us more time to do what we wanted after dinner. Sarah and Kyle were better at cooking than Kate and I, so they did more of the cooking, but in return, Kate and I did more of the cleanup at the end. Working together and making sure that all the food and parts of the tent had been packed was very important as the entire team would suffer if any one person left anything behind.

We had a great time at camp, and it gave us some simple but real responsibilities and opportunities to work together as a team. I enjoyed the time to work with my peers and to get to know them better.

Fixed to Growth Mindset

I was at basketball and only Jayden and I were there. The training session was long and involved a lot of running and about half way through my legs and arms were really sore. I wanted to give up and do easy drills so that I wouldn’t be tired but I decided to keep doing the drills that were very hard. About 45 minutes into the training session, I really wanted to give up but my coach told me to keep going and keep working hard. After the training we played a 1v1. At first, I didn’t understand the point of doing the really hard drills but then part of the way threw the 1v1, I started doing all of the stuff that the drills were teaching me. At the end of the 1v1, I was really happy that my mindset had changed to a growth mindset.

RAAFA Project

In RAAFA, we were solving the problem of the residents not being able to get to the canteen to each their food.

In the first week, I was really struggling with thinking of ideas and I didn’t have any clue how I was going to come up with any ideas. I didn’t think that my group would be one of the groups that would be presenting to RAAFA at the end of the project and have our design taken into consideration.

In the third week, I had come up with some pretty good ideas and I was happy with how it was going but I knew that our idea could still be better. We had gone through a few ideas and took some stuff from previous ideas.

In the final week, we had a finished product and we were ready to present. I was confident that if our group was chosen to present, that we would do well. We went to building 8 to present and it was pretty good. We presented first and the RAAFA representative was pretty impressed. All of the group did very well and she was very happy with all the ideas. Each group had different ideas and each group had something that they needed to work on. I think that if we got ideas from each group, the final product would be perfect to the problem.
