In term 3, my assessment in health was to create a well-being expo to present to other Year 9 students. We were in groups and I was with Raphie. We had to choose any issue within the well-being range and a solution to go along with it. We created a colouring-in book and a mindfulness playlist to go along with it. Our issue was that there is a lack of participation of mindfulness in teenagers.

The biggest thing I learnt during this task was that mindfulness can increase engagement with other teenagers. This encouraged me to try to do mindfulness when my social battery is low.

One thing I would pass onto the next generation is to study and research what can benefit their wellbeing because the information is useful for many situations and is overall interesting.

A pledge that I am going to commit to my own wellbeing is to reserve time off for my own. I would do this because sometimes I can have the tend to say yes to every plans that I’m offered and get tired but don’t want to cancel any. i can commit to this by having specific times throughout the week where its just me.

In my Life Skills, we have been researching different jobs that could be possible for us in the future and one of the jobs that I landed on was a Flight Attendant. Some interesting things I have found out are on call all the time and they are trained to do similar things on ground then when they are in the air.

This shows what the year’s companies wanted workers.
The pay for a Flight Attrendant is a little low than average.

I am currently in the salvo’s café redesign group for term 3. This includes a group of 11 students and the teacher is Ms Winter. The salvos café is located in northbridge and is in definite need of a redesign, it’s goal is to be welcoming to all meaning cheaper prices for the struggling and pay it forward cards. The manager of this café is Glen Miles and we have had a meeting with him inside the café where we were able to ask questions and look around the area for improvements. After all the information was traded and questioned, we went for a walk around the area to look at other competitors and surroundings. We found unique public items, different looking cafes and some of my peers surveyed the public. By being in northbridge it changed my perspective on the cafes ‘vibe’. In the weeks after we visited, we completed a design sprint about the cafe that incorporated who our competitors are, what our goals are and similar things, we also created a Trello, which is an online scrum website. Our ideas so far for the cafes involve painting the outside red and removing some of the old items. We have only a few more weeks left and hopefully, we all use our skills to achieve a successful improvement to the cafe.

$20 Boss is a school project where students lead their own business and sell their products at a school market. My experience was overall positive but there was ups and downs along the way. All Saints College invested in 15+ business and helped our companies to succeed. My business was called ‘Flip It’ and included Raphie Benjamen and Jasmine Kooner. We made recycled second-hand clothes and changed them into different items.

Capabilities

The capabilities I used during $20Boss was organisation and resilience. I needed to use organisation because the group needed to do work out of school and use my time wisely during innovative classes, I used organisation by making lists and a scrum for the group. I also needed resilience in my group as I needed to trust my group and be patient. I also needed to use resilience when my group didn’t sell as much as we were expecting.

Obstacles

The obstacles I faced was my group not selling as much as we thought in the school market. We overcame this by being positive and accepting the fact that the market might not be the right people and our show case of products could improve.

This is my design sprint which I needed to achieve to start the business.

Process

The process of Flip It started with completing a design script worksheet which included target audiences, competition in markets, problem and brainstorming of ideas. After we got our certificate we brainstormed ideas on our proper business idea, my group went through skincare products and food ideas until we agreed on the idea of upcycling clothes. We got our idea approved and collected inspiration for the clothes we wanted to create. I created a scrum for the group to plot our steps on making Flip It succeed. I completed the surveys and the pitch to get our school loan. We worked on the products and it became a buisness and we sold at the All Saints market. We made $28.50 at the market by selling mostly scrunchie and bags.

Summary

Overall I was happy with the lessons and experiences of the $20Boss and would like to use my skills in other innovative activities, like creativeness and organisation. I can use this in the Salvation Café because I will need to create out of the box ideas and will need to be organised and keep on track of the work I will need to do.

During InnovatED, Year 7 prepared for the 2020 Christmas Market. The Year 7 Christmas Market is an annual event for all saints. The Christmas market is a market full of year 7’s split into groups that had to make a product to sell with an investment of $30. All the money that is made for the Christmas market gets given to a charity. We split into groups and made a product to sell to the students and teachers. I got put into a group with Anna He and Alicia Reynolds. We made beach in a bottles and windchimes.

The Beginning – Economics

During HASS we learnt about the basic terms of money. Not only did these lessons help us with our Christmas Market but it will also help us in the “real” world. We also had to use these terms in our HASS reflection. These lessons were very helpful for me as I had heard the words before but had no idea what they meant.

InnovatED

On the first lesson of InnovatED for term 4, we got put into groups to interview each other on what they think Christmas is to them and others. We were also asked what we would want and what other age groups would want for Christmas. I noticed that my group had the same idea for the age groups, this was helpful because it meant that most people in age groups will like around the most stuff. This also made it easier to select a target audience

Design Thinking Process – ideate

Over the next couple innovatED lessons we looked up different ideas that we could possibly do. this is apart of the ideate stage of the design thinking process my group had a lot of ideas but we decided went through many stages of elimination and my group ended up with a beach themed stall and beach themed products. Our products are beach in a bottles and windchimes which were made out of natural windchimes with a unit cost of 17c and $3.94.

Products/Stall

Before and during the Christmas Market we kept the price to $2 for the beach in a bottle’s and $4 for the windchimes. I believe that this was a good and reasonable price because people wouldn’t want to pay too much and our products weren’t too cheap for my group not to make a profit. Neat the end of the Christmas Market we ended up being sold out and having a revenue of $96.05 and since we used $20 of the $30 investment we had a profit of $76.05.

Overall

Overall this my experience with the Christmas Market was successful and taught me many life lessons for later on in my life. I am happy how my results came out and how much we raised for charity.
