Christmas market🎄

Christmas Market!

The Christmas Market was an exciting process where we could come up with an innovative product and sell it to raise money for the Salvation Army. As a cohort, we raised over $3000, which is $1000 more than any other year. In a variety of different subjects, we worked on different ways we can help grow our ‘business’. For example, in HASS we learnt about different economical concepts like supply and demand or consumer/producers. This process really tested our capabilities and allowed ourselves to experience what it’s like working with finances and selling produce.

OUR IDEA

Our Idea was creating bracelets made out of Ring Pulls. This was a difficult product to make as we had a limited amount of Ring Pulls and making the product is very labour intensive. However, eventually we learnt how to make the bracelets and as we saw more of them being produced, we got excited to see everything coming together. The special thing about our bracelets, which seperated us from our competitors, was that our product was sustainable. We used 100% recycled Ring Pulls, and my partner went to pull off Ring Pulls at a collection center.

THE PROCESS-

HASS- In Economics, we talked about the financial aspect of the market. We learnt about several different terms which we had to remember in our reflection. It was important to know about our percentage mark-up, as we needed to have a respective selling price.

English- In English we made advertisements which could help sell our product. We learnt about different techniques such as the rule of 3, different meanings of colour etc. The ad was, personally, the most enjoyable task as we could be creative and make an ad which appeals to your target audience.

Digital Tech- In Dig Tech, we learnt how to make spreadsheets so we can keep record of our finances. We had to use the design/thinking process and think about defining our spreadsheet and it’s purpose. We also learnt to use Adobe Illustrator to make our logos. It was quite difficult at first to make a logo using the application, however, the final product ended up being very eye-catching.

InnovatED- InnovatED was the part of the process where we could be creative and make our products. In InnovatED, we had to think about the College Capabilities wheel and using those values to help us throughout the process.

Market Day-

The market was really fun and exciting. It showed us what it’s like to sell products and what the market wants. On the market day, we first had to make our stall look appealing to customers. Then during lunch, we sold our products to the school. Our target audience was junior school students.

ASC Capabilities-

ASC Capabilities wheel!

We had to use the ASC Capabilities wheel while working with our group. These capabilities include;

Communication- We had to use effective communication while working so we can get the job accomplished. I would rate Jess and I’s communication was rated a 6/10. We sometimes didn’t agree on things and could’ve communicated better.

Creative- Our product had to be creative so we can sell it and earn profit. I would rate our creativity a 9/10. Our product, the bracelets, were very creative and the idea was really ambitious. We succeeded with our creativity.

Ethical- Our idea was very ethical as we were reusing ring-pulls (which would usually go to waste) and creating something better. I would rate how ethical we were a 10/10.
