For the few months, Alison, Saya, and I worked on the Alcohol and Binge Drinking Expo. The task was to create a stall designed to educate our peers about the negative effects of binge drinking. We created a poster and a more safe and friendly game of beer pong. The topics we focused on were: Tips for hosting a party for a teenager, Australian Guidelines to Reduce Health Risks from Drinking Alcohol, Effects of binge drinking (short and long term), What is a standard drink (various types of alcohol) and how to keep track of them. I really enjoyed working on this project and learnt a significant amount.
I learnt that binge drinking has terrible long term and short term side effects , varying from nausea and impaired judgement to as severe as seizures and cancers. I also learnt how to respond to someone if they are peer pressuring me into irresponsible drinking. I also learnt the various types of drinking games such as beer pong and never have I ever, however now I am aware of the side effects these games can cause. I now know what a standard drink is (A standard drink is the amount of alcohol contained in that drink. This varies in every type of alcohol beverage) and only 10 should be consumed per week for an adult. I am aware that talking with a responsible adult can help you understand drinking in a reasonable manner better.

I would advise teenagers to not be afraid to refuse drinking with their friends and not to be pressured into doing something they are not comfortable with. Drinking isn’t cool and will lead you to having severe health side effects in the future. Talking with an adult about the situation can help. Having the knowledge and understanding of the side effects of binge drinking makes you more confident. Always be aware that it’s your body, your choice and that no one can make you think otherwise.
I pledge to not begin drinking alcohol until I reach the legal age of 18 years old and will never be peer pressured by people around me to drink unsafe amounts. I am aware that alcohol can lead to negative consequences and can harm me in terrible ways. I won’t put myself in unsafe situations whilst being drunk or influenced by alcohol in any way. I will always be responsible and get a trusted adult if something goes wrong.
I chose these things because I am aware that excessive intake and consumption of alcohol can lead in consequences. I want to keep myself, my body, my friends, me family and people around me healthy and happy. I will stick to these commitments by always being aware of my surroundings and never putting myself in situations which are unsafe. I will never be peer pressured into doing things which are harmful towards me and my body.
