For Media in semester two, we had to create a movie that followed the theme “a light bulb moment”. My group decided to make a murder mystery movie which we entitled “Two-Faced”.

Describe the process you went through to create this production

We had to start by creating a script and storyboard to help us when filming so that we had a plan and wouldn’t get distracted. Once we finished our scripts we had to start filming. We spent the most time filming because we had to film many scenes and refilm the ones we messed up on. After we had finished filming all of the scenes we had to start editing. I did most of the editing on my laptop and we finished the editing pretty fast I think that we did a good job and worked hard. After the editing was finished, we were pretty much done and we had to show it to the class to get any feedback, and then we could improve it at home.

How did you come up with the original idea?

We started brainstorming in class but we couldn’t come up with many good ideas. I was thinking about other movies I had seen and then I thought of doing a murder with a plot twist at the end and when I told my group my idea, they helped to develop the plan to improve it. Their ideas were integrated into my original plan until we had a pretty good idea of what to do for our movie.

Describe three obstacles/challenges that you encountered when creating your production

The first problem we encountered was when a new member joined our group after we had already come up with an idea. We had to modify and change our plan so that we could include her in the movie. Another obstacle was working with people who were hard to work with and who I don’t usually talk with. To overcome this obstacle we tried talking to them and including them more so that they would feel more included in the project. We also had problems when group members forgot their costumes or a prop that they were supposed to bring. To overcome this we borrowed costumes from the media rack and asked the teacher and other people if they had any props that we could borrow.

What would you do differently next time?

Next time, I would be a bit more efficient with time and make sure that all of the scenes flowed smoothly because some of the scenes in our movie cut to a completely different one and sometime I would have my hair down in one shot and then in the next one which was supposed to be the same day, I would have my hair tied up. This also made it a bit harder for the audience to follow along so next time I would make sure that there are no problems in our movie with consistency.

Describe the final presentation, what do you think it meant and represented?

In the final presentation, there were three screens which were each playing a different film and they were on a loop. This made it hard for the audience to concentrate on one given film for too long, thus causing a fog in their mind. To add to this effect, there was literal fog in the room from a smoke machine.
