The first activity where leadership was essential was in the team games. In this game, our larger group was separated into 2 smaller teams, and each had to stand around 2 tarps. The goal of this game was to get a ball, over no-mans land, to the other side where the other team had to catch it. Leadership was essential in this game as when we were all talking, we were unorganised, and kept accidentally dropping the ball – so someone had to step in, speak up and make sure we began to work efficiently as a group. This made sure that we started scoring points, rather than everyone trying to do their own individual thing – so leadership was needed for this.

Another thing that was good about our team was that we were able to come together and have good times. I believe this is a very important part of teamwork, as making sure there isn’t any tension and that everybody is in good spirits makes sure that the team is effectively working and are productive. On camp, this was uno. During this game, we were able to relax and have a good time together – which was much needed after a day of walking 3 km, carrying our packs from site to site. It was some tough competition, and the stakes were high for the winner and loser of the game – having to get onto the table and perform for the group.
