Innovat[ed] Wellbeing project

Our aim was to start planning for an idea that would help benefit the well-being of a service partner with the college. Over the course of 6 weeks, we had created an idea and present it to year 5s, 6s and parents.

DESIGN PROCESS

Week 1: We got into our groups and started to brainstorm ideas through several different processes of finding what service partners that work with our school, this is the empathise stage. The service partner we chose was TLG.

Week 2: This week we defined what our idea was with TLG. Which was to help kids with a less fortunate area be able to play basketball.

Week 3: We started to write the script for the video that we were making. Eventually, we decided to make a Basketball Basics video that helps kids get better from an early age. We decided this couldn’t benefit a partner.

Week 4: Edited the videos for the video and designed the website so we can put the videos on their.

Week 5: Getting ready for the presentation and finding the best way to design our stall, also, we finished the video.

Week 6: The presentation, we got the stall ready and people already started lining up to listen to our videos.

Capabilities Wheel

CAPABILITIES

COLLABORATIVE:

This capability was one that I felt I achieved. I worked with my group to make the videos and the website. When I wasn’t sure what to say my group members instructed me and I did the same with them.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

This capability was one that I felt I achieved. When our idea didn’t really work I thought of an idea to fix it so we could have a better idea. I told my group after our idea with Rebound WA didn’t work out, we can still do it but we can change partners so I suggested TLG and my other members thought of Beyond Blue. Eventually neither of those ideas worked so I decided the video could benefit children between ages 8-10, this is because most kids start learning basketball at this time and we created a website to help out with that.

GOAL

Our goal for this presentation is to attract kids in years 5 and 6 to watch the video as it was more targeted at their age group. Also, another goal was to create a functioning website that allows kids to have details on how to improve basketball skills.

REFLECTION

Overall I feel my group accomplished what our goal was from the start. We stuck to what we wrote on the script and it turned out better than my group and I expected. Each week we tried to finish up with our best result, with the videos and the website.

BRAINSTORMING

The brainstorming for different ideas took the longest. We had very few ideas that fit well with the sponsors. Our first prototype idea was a basketball tips video but for Rebound WA, so disabled people could learn how to play basketball. Also, another idea we had was for Beyond Blue which would make people like basketball so they will play it a lot due to knowing how to play. The last idea we came up with was with TLG. It would allow kids to play basketball in rural and less fortunate areas, to play sports and have fun.
