Drivers ED Reflection

In Week 10 of term 1, years 10 and 11 students from WA schools gathered at RAC arena for an information day on safe driving at the RAC bstreetsmart excursion.

This was a very beneficial excursion and I got a lot out of it. However, the main things that stuck in my head were: it can only take one mishap to cause a crash, if you are feeling OK (not tired or drunk) there is still a risk of crashing, seatbelts save lives, many distractions (mobile phones, passengers, etc) that cause accidents, to be wise before entering a car. Although these were things I already knew about driving safely, I was unaware of how dangerous they actually are.

Consequences of dangerous driving are $800 for a first offence, to $2,000 and/or 9 months imprisonment, or a 12-month licence suspension. Many consequences aren’t just financial. Dangerous driving can cause injury or death to yourself or a friend/family.

Advice that I would pass on to young drivers is if you are driving with friends make sure they have their seatbelts on and not distracting the driver, this is because this is one of the main causes of crashes and it is easily avoidable.
