In the duration of Project Utopia, we were given the objective to create a perfect world. The project extended across term 2 and 3 with many tasks including all of the prime subjects. During term two we planned and researched, whilst in term there we built and extended our knowledge using the UN Global Goals. I worked in a group with one of my peers making our thoughts and ideas of a perfect world come to life. This project challenged us to collaborate and incorporate our learning from the other core subject to truly create a perfect world.
The Giver in English
This project began in term two when we started reading the giver. From this book, I learnt how a utopian society can fall but what it is really all about. Throughout the book, I learnt that to have a utopia everyone needs to be included. The Giver set the base for the project because from there I realized that a utopia is not all about everything being perfect and there being lots and lots of rules. I learnt that a utopia is a place where everyone is happy, where the environment is cared for and everyone has an opinion.
Livability Factors in HASS and Science
In HASS we learnt about the liveability factors and how they affect people’s desire to live in a certain place. What people would like within a community makes their decision if they want to live there or not. Building community is one of the main aspects in a community, including environmental quality. To build community everyone needs to be willing to commit and collaborate to get to know one and other. This section of the project really helped me understand what a Utopian society needs to thrive.
Sustainability in Science
The liveability factor of environmental quality continued into what we were doing in science. Here I learnt about the importance of sustainability. I built upon my knowledge learning how renewable aspects benefit. Collecting all the information which I had learnt which helped me realize that a sustainable community would value the planet. I worked with Christie learning about water and energy-saving features and behaviours, to create our assessment. Designing our sustainable house, we needed to include our ideas and all the sustainability aspects. Just by doing this, I learnt that including behaviours and aspects could really make our house environmentally friendly.
Using the design process, we started to create our individual Utopia designs. I created my utopia so that I was able to build a community. By having all the event areas and the housing developments to build little communities within the whole Utopian society. Whilst we were finishing up our plans, we got into groups to share ideas and see what everyone had done to include building community and all the liveability factors. From this, I learnt that I could include many more ideas just from building and sharing with others.
UN Global Goals
Starting the Innovat-Ed process of learning about the UN global goals and combined all our knowledge into our Utopia. The UN global goals are what all countries around the world would like to achieve, to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly world. They focus on the solutions and action we need to tackle poverty, inequality, injustice, and climate change. Everyone can contribute to making sure the Global Goals are met. And it made me realize that by just doing simple things like eating less packaged foods and giving away clothes and other things to the poor can really make a difference. From learning this we created a homeless shelter and places for people to build community while supporting the homeless and the less fortunate. To earn an accreditation the teacher needed to recognise that we understood and had achieved that global goal within our utopian society. Within my group, I earned 4 accreditations improving my community.
Involving everything we learnt since the start of Project Utopia. Including as many as the UN global goals by earning accreditations. We started to work cohesively in a group to create a design with all our ideas. Compromising with my partner, whilst making sure that we had ways to build community and achieve the global goals. We created our design and got feedback, teaching me that your project is never perfect the first time, and it can always be improved.
Our Presentations in English
In English, we started to conduct a speech reflecting on what we had done so far. We went through many practises, just trying to get it perfect. And it made me understand that it would never be perfect and that nothing was ever going to be perfect. Just making it as best as it can be is all that counts, doing your best is all that matters.

Constitution in HASS
One of the hardest challenges I faced was compromising with my group as we needed to find a solution that everyone was happy with. One of the easiest decisions we had to make over this project was what type of government we wanted to have. This decision continued into our civics and citizenship task which was making a constitution. This task helped me realize that the government does a lot, they follow rules but also represent us to the best of their ability. We might think that they suck and that they make so many mistakes, but everyone makes mistakes, and they help you.
Overall this project has really impacted my life. It has taught me many life lessons and has helped me worked collaboratively with other people. It has improved my organisation and confidence. Project utopia was an experience to remember as it has helped me improve many of my skills which I can use in other tasks.
