About Me

Hi, I’m Kaitlyn!

I am a year 8 student at All Saints’ College (ASC). I have been going to ASC since Kindy and have enjoyed every moment of it. I hope to grow and learn more through the rest of my school years.

My hobbies

I may not have that many hobbies, but the ones that I do have I love. I spend most of my time at dance classes, rehearsals or concerts. Dance helps me stay fit and it also helps me stay focused on what’s important and mainly makes me happy. Another hobby that I enjoy is sewing, I normally sew for markets and to take up my spare time, but I also make gifts for friends. A few things that I’ve sewn are tote bags, draw-string bags, bucket hats, scrunchies, Christmas hats and lavender stuffed frogs. I enjoy making all of these things as they look great when they’re done and give me joy. A hobby that doesn’t take up too much time is journaling. When I don’t have anything else to do, I normally journal as it gives the paper a deeper meaning or idea.

Capabilities & how I’ve used them

I try to use the college values and capability wheel every day, although it’s not always possible. They help guide me through a tough school day, or just life. A few of the capabilities that I attempt to use each day include effective communication, self-awareness, organisation, creativity, and resilience. I use effective communication by talking to people in a clear voice, understanding what they say first and making sure that they understand what I am saying to them. I also use this in English by asking useful/relevant questions and making sure i understand the topic. I make sure that I am self-aware when I dance as I know when something is too hard, my body can’t do it and I also make sure that I am not in anyone’s way so that they can still move around. Self-awareness is important in English as well because you have to know what your limits are and what style of writing suits me. Attempting to be organised each day is a struggle for me, but I can still cope, I do this by preparing a day earlier by packing the right uniform, checking the schedule, and making sure that I have everything that I need for the day. I make sure that each English assignment is handed in on time and that I study for each English test a few weeks before to know that I am prepared. This helps me as I am prepared for the day and won’t come unstuck. Creativity comes quite easily for me as I can think outside of the box and have different ideas than other people, this can help me with problem-solving and comprehension. In English, this helps as I have different ideas for writing and new creative ideas that may surprise people. Resilience is a part of my everyday life as I bounce back from hard situations or things that may not have gone right, an example of this is when I wasn’t able to get house captain in year 6, but I was happy for the people who did get it and congratulated them warmly. I was also able to bounce back from a bad result in English, which made me realise that I should spend more time studying English topics in the future.

Achievements

The two achievements that I am most proud of didn’t come with a trophy, but they would still mean just as much if they did. The first achievement that I’ve made is being able to sell products to people overseas, this is big for me as it shows that my products are worthwhile making and they can be meaningful. The second thing that is a big achievement for me is choreographing a duet with Flick. The duet wasn’t just fun but also taught me that communication and collaboration are key. The duet also helped me work on my extension, projection and facial expressions when performing.
