Role-models

Task 1:

My house of values (bottom to top)

My top three values

Ethics:
Ethics are important to me as they drive my morals. They lead the path to where I want to be in the future. Ethics are also important as they should keep me on a route that I believe is good. My ethics support what I want in the future and follow what I believe in. Ethics have the same purpose even though our thoughts and beliefs alter from one another-they still guide us on our path of choice. Ethics can change but always have the same purpose. The purpose of ethics is vital as they shape who you are and what you want to be.

Family:
Family is important to me as they are people who I can always trust, talk to and rely on. They have helped mould my life into what it is today and shaped who I am, what I believe in and what I could be in the future. My family has always supported me through tough times, and I have supported them too. Family relationships cannot break even if you want them to. Even though you may hate them sometimes, you will always make up and have an even better relationship than before, as you have overcome another problem together.

Trust:
Trust is important to me because it gives me reliability in others, and myself. This reinforces friendships and makes the bonds stronger, as we can rely on each other and are able to put faith in each other. Trust is something in everyday life, it is important to everyone, just not as much or more than others.

Task 2:

Healthy role model- Ash Barty

Ash Barty with RSPCA dog

What behaviours does this person demonstrate?
Ash Barty is a young Australian role model for many kids. She has taken part in the RSPCA ambassador cohort. This organisation is aiming to take animal welfare to the next level. Another thing that Ash is doing to better support the AUS community is encouraging young indigenous people to keep playing sports as well as young girls. She doesn’t gloat about her successes and skills but stays humble.

what do they look like?
She looks like a healthy, happy, sporty, humble person. I know this as she is kind to her competitors and congratulates them if they win or lose. You often see her in different sports as she enjoys sports, and doesn’t see them as a big competition to dedicate your whole life to. Ash Barty is also aware of the dangers of sun exposure as you see her always wearing a hat. She is an appropriate size/weight, as she looks after herself. She always seems happy and accepts losses as well.

What message does she promote?
She encourages all young Australians to keep playing sports, no matter their gender or race, and to enjoy it.
This is healthy because keeping active/fit is important as it improves mental and physical health. It is also important as it encourages young people to do what they want to do, and not be affected by peer pressure. Ash leads by example, as she shows that you need to put in the work to get what you’re aiming for. She does this by winning Wimbledon, tennis tournaments and the Australian Open, whilst still staying humble when she lost at the Olympics.

Why should young people look up to her?
Young people should look up the Ash Barty as she supports them, and encourages them to have a healthy lifestyle by perusing sporting activities. Young people should also look up to Ash as she doesn’t worry about what other people think of her, she follows her path. She also doesn’t push herself too hard, she knows when to stop.

What values does Ash demonstrate?
Hard-working
She has been training and practising tennis for years.

Confidence
You wouldn’t go to a tennis competition if you weren’t confident that you’d win.

Kindness
She treats her opponents with respect, she has partnered with the RSPCA and she encourages indigenous Australians to play sports.

Honesty and Ethics
Ash plays by the rules and doesn’t break them to her advantage.

Resilience
She comes back from her injuries and losses and takes time to confirm what she wants.

Humble
She doesn’t throw a fit when she loses and doesn’t flash her money.

Inclusive
She wants all people to be involved in sport, especially the people who could struggle with participating.

Understanding
She connects her past experiences to others and listens.

Thoughtfulness
She helps those in need. (she donated 30,000 dollars to the RSPCA during the black bushfires)

Unhealthy role model- Johnny Depp

What does he look like?
He use to have a healthy lifestyle and ate good food. This showed, as he use to have glowing skin and looked healthy. But that took a turn and he has been abusive, taking drugs and drinking wine a lot. This also shows that he hasn’t got as clear skin and isn’t looking after himself. You can tell as the change is visible.

Unhealthy Johnny Depp
Healthy Johnny Depp

What message does he promote?
Johnny Depp romanticises the drug culture. This is unhealthy as it promotes the drug industry through celebrities and culture, and entices their viewers to take drugs, even if they know the effects which can cause long term issues; mental and physical.

Should young people look up to him?
I believe that it depends on why you’re looking up to him. If it is ONLY based on his acting them yes. This is a yes because he does a great job of following his character and its traits. But if you were to look up to him as a human, then that would be a no. This is a no as he believes that he is better than everyone else and he doesn’t treat people like humans, or have any care for them and their opinion/what they would want. He bashed his wife, he takes drugs, drinks too much, doesn’t eat healthily and doesn’t have a healthy lifestyle.

Is everything you read/see on the media true?
I don’t think that everything in the media is true. I think that there are trustworthy publishers and untrustworthy publishers. It depends on the creators’ history. Say if they wrote about someone killing their pet because they got annoying (or something else that wouldn’t be in human nature/ you know for sure they wouldn’t do that) then I wouldn’t believe that. But if they were writing about how will smith slapped someone (or something you knew happed just not the full story) then I would most likely believe that publisher. So not everything on the media is true, but a decent amount is. You just need to trust the publisher/creator.
