Year 7 Outdoor Learning Program Reflection

In Year 7 I was lucky enough to attend the Waroona OLP at Forrest Edge Recreation Camp. Before we started the activities the instructors told us that this camp was all about pushing our personal boundaries. The first activity that I did was the Incentive Course. A 7km hike to a nearby campsite. This treck was hard for me physically and mentally. I had to cary a backpack full of supplies through mud, over streams, past cows and over and under electric fences. One or the highlights of this trail was being able to spend some time in the streams that ran through the farming pasture. We all got wet and muddy and slipped over at least once but it was a lot of fun

Just when I thought that this journey wasn’t going to be fun, the instructors surprised us with a mud fight! My first thought was ” I’m going to get too dirty ” But then I ran in and joined the others. Mud was flying everywhere and people were having a lot of fun.

Me at the end of the mud fight!

Near the end of the hike there was one last hill and my legs almost gave out. Luckily a friend helped me with the backpack during this section. I finally made it to the end of the hill up to the campsite. I was the last one there but I was just glad I made it. What the incentive course taught me is you need never give up no matter how hard the task is and that I can do many more things than I think I can. I am very grateful for the opportunity of Year 7 OLP.
