Year 9 Camp

In year 9 camp in Kalbarri, I showed my leadership and teamwork skills by becoming a day leader in my camp group. We were chosen by our camp leader to lead and support our camp group for a day. The day I was chosen to be a leader was when we had to hike into the gorges to a swimming spot with our day packs. Our duties as a leader for the day was helping with food, making sure everything was organised and looking out for other people in our group and make sure everyone felt happy and comfortable. I and 1 other person had to help lead our group through the gorges and be encouraging team leaders. We talked about our game plan and how we were going to help and lead our camp group. We faced many problems on the way to the gorge. Some people were slow and some were fast, which split our group up but as a group we all supported each other and encouraged everyone to keep going. We supported people when abseiling down to the gorge and rock climbing our way back out of the gorge. We threw words of encouragement on the way back to camp to everyone when we all got tired and just wanted to get back fast. Becoming a leader for the day taught me how to listen to others opinions more, to be resilient more often, how to be more proactive around camp and how being a leader for a big group of people is not as easy as it looks from afar.
