In this Health Assessment; my task was to create a house of values of the values that I demonstrate inside and outside of school. With the most consistent value at the bottom of the house. The second task was to pick a celebrity who is a good role model in my opinion and another celebrity who I think is a bad role model. Following this was answering given questions about what makes me think this person is a good role model for society or a bad role model for society.
HOUSE OF VALUES

In the first task of the Health Assessment, we were to create a ‘House of Values’ that resembled all of the personal values that I demonstrate inside and outside of School. The value that I demonstrate and I thought held the most importance to me had to be placed at the bottom of the House, and then more values following up from that depending on how important they were to me. The value I placed at the bottom was Knowledge. As an individual, I feel that I have a very broad and wide knowledge of most things in the world such as religions, knowledge of different subjects at school, knowledge of events happening in the world currently, and knowledge of other beliefs people take part in. I feel that having knowledge like that is very important because then you are aware of what is happening in Modern society and life can be easier to get through. Having knowledge can unlock new values such as having respect and empathy. For example, if you have knowledge on the different types of religions such as Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism you can then build respect for the people who follow these religions for their beliefs. Another example is if you gain knowledge on what is happening with Russia and Ukraine you can then develop the value of empathy by empathising with the people of Ukraine and how they feel in these tough times.
The second step of the House of Values task was to place a percentage near each value that we placed inside the House. Making sure that it all added up to 100% and that the percentages we place make sense. For example, if a block that a value is in is bigger than another block then the value in a bigger block should have a bigger percentage than the one with a smaller block. In my House of Values, I made sure that I didn’t use large numbers as a percentage, otherwise, the total percentage would not add up to 100%. In order to prevent this, I made the largest percentage on my ‘House of Values’ 15%.
The first core value that I have selected is Knowledge. It is important to me because having Knowledge as I explained before about the things around us and of the world will then teach you how to develop new values and use them. For example, having knowledge about the different religions that some people take part in can help to develop the value of respect in order to respect the people for their beliefs. Another example is when we are talking about LGBTQ. Having knowledge on this topic can again help us to acquire the value of respect towards people who follow LGBTQ. Having the value of knowledge helps to build a better personality within us and be able to interact with others and make decisions more wisely.
The second core value that I have selected is Honesty. I feel that Honesty is also an important value because first of all being honest with yourself and with others doesn’t leave you with guilt in your life nor does it leave you with regret. Which are two things that can affect your mental health. Second of all having the value of Honesty is the key foundation to building trust in a relationship with the people around you. When people find you trustworthy, interacting with others always becomes easier. When you’re faced with a decision on whether to tell a fib or confess to the truth; the truth should always be the choice you have to make. Making honesty one of your values is very powerful.
The last core value that I have selected is Empathy. Empathy is an important value because being able to put your feet into other people’s shows allows us to understand how others are feeling and the situation they are in in order for us to respond appropriately to the situation. The value of empathy helps us when interacting with others because we are able to make the right decision when deciding how to handle to situation. Empathy also helps to build stronger bonds in relationships which can eventually lead to trust.
GOOD ROLE MODEL- MICHELLE OBAMA

- What behaviours does this person demonstrate to show they are healthy?
The behaviours that Michelle Obama presents that lead her to be a good role model are having determination, having empathy for the people around her, and having integrity. Michelle Obama is always searching for ways to make the world she lives in a better place. Michelle Obama created a campaign called ‘Let’s move!’ in which the aim was to reduce children’s obesity and encourage healthier lifestyles for children. This shows Michelle’s determination to give other people a better life through empathy. However, that is not the only campaign that Michelle Obama has held. She has held another campaign that supported members of the armed forces, veterans, and families. It provided education, and wellness to help them succeed in the future. Another campaign Michelle held encouraged girls to stay in school and asked the government to make a greater investment in education. Alongside all these campaigns and acts of leadership as the First lady, Michelle encourages herself every day to do some exercise. She says, ‘If I don’t then who will’. These behaviours and acts demonstrate Michelle is a healthy person.
2. What do they look like? Are they healthy? How do you know?
Michelle Obama is a 58-year-old African American with a height of 1.8m. She is married to the institutor of the new American healthy system in which affordable healthcare is a right and not a privilege. She brought needed attention to the child obesity epidemic which demonstrates that she cares about the health of children and herself. Demonstrating that Michelle Obama is a healthy person who has raised a family.
3. What message does this person promote? Why is it inspiring and healthy?

The message that Michelle Obama promotes is that education is an important part of reaching success in the world and believes that education will help children reach their full potential in life and be able to achieve outstanding success. Michelle believes that education will also help solve world issues such as racial profiling, mass incarceration, and voting rights. The First lady wants kids to be able to go to class every day. This message is inspirational because Michelle’s persistence shows how much education can change young minds and how we can all grow up to be successful people with the right mindset. This is healthy because it encourages children to stay in school so they can grow up to be incredible beings and that success is never impossible to reach, and with success comes hard work and determination which Michelle has modeled brilliantly. One of Michelle’s quotes states ‘If you are committed to doing what it takes, anything is possible. It’s up to you’ and another quote says, ‘With a lot of hard and good education, anything is possible- even becoming president.
4. Why should young people look up to this person as a role model?
Young people should definitely look up to Michelle Obama because she demonstrates what great things can happen in your life if you have a good education and work hard in school. She shows that any goal can be accomplished if you work hard enough and stay in school. She encourages young people that school is worth going to and will be the biggest benefit in their lives. Michelle also teaches to always portray kindness in the world. She says that success isn’t about making lots of money but making a difference in other people’s lives. Another important thing that Michelle models to young people are staying healthy and taking on healthy lifestyles. She does this by holding campaigns and partaking in healthy lifestyles and eating choices to show young children how beneficial it can be for their health.
5. Thinking back to the House of Values activity, what values does this person demonstrate?
The values that Michelle Obama demonstrates include Determination, persistence, Intelligence, Integrity, empathy, Kindness, courage, leadership, success, teamwork, and Giving back.
BAD ROLE MODEL- DONALD TRUMP
- What behaviours does this person demonstrate to show that they are unhealthy?
Donald Trump doesn’t have any empathy for people and lacks the value of kindness. Donald Trump has presented terrible leadership lessons to the public such as ‘Throw money at people to make them go away and ‘If you are famous rich and powerful, you can get away with anything. Showing that Trump is a very arrogant person and thinks he is superior to others. The way he demonstrates leadership is not very inspiring for the public and for young children and instead leads to having a different view of things in life and how things should work. This way is very negative and selfless and gives bad teachings to people in life. This is a very unhealthy way to go through life and doesn’t give a good role model for others around Trump. These behaviours demonstrate that Donald Trump is a bad and unhealthy role model.
2. What do they look like? Do they look unhealthy? How do you know?

Donald Trump is a 75-year-old American politician, media personality, and businesses man. He has a height of 1.9m tall. Donald Trump is found unhealthy because he is often referred to as being “orange”, and this is because of his excessive use of skin tan as well as incorrect use of skin tanning, making him appear sickly or unwell. Donald Trump has also made multiple statements during the coronavirus pandemic that have hinted that health isn’t a huge concern for him and the health of others is not of major concern as well. One of Donald Trump’s statements was about injecting hand sanitizer into people as a vaccine.
3. What message does this celebrity promote? Why is it unhealthy?

The message that this celebrity promotes is somewhat like ‘When you have all the power you can do whatever you want without anyone getting in your way’. This message is not healthy, especially for the young people of the public. This implies that the only way you can reach success in life is if you are famous, rich, and powerful. That is the only way you can get what you want and do whatever you want. This statement is very pressureful because young children will feel as if they can never have success in their lives without these things. This brings doubt, stress, and pressure which will make young audiences feel as if they will never have success in life. These things are extremely unhealthy in life and bring negativity. This is why the message that Donald Trump promotes is highly unhealthy.
4. Do you think that young people should look up to this role model? Why or why not?
I don’t think that people should look up to this Role model. The reason why I think that people shouldn’t look up the Donald Trump is that he does not set a good example of what a leader should be. Young children are always being taught how to be good leaders and representatives for their peers around them and Donald Trump doesn’t set a good example of how to do this. His teachings are very negative, and he is not one who could be called ‘fair’. His ways of solving problems in life are always related to having money. Children are being taught that money can’t solve your problems and that you can’t have success with just money. However, listening to Donald Trump will change young minds’ perspectives and make children think that if they want to solve a problem, they need money. And if they don’t have money, they will never be able to solve a problem. Which is not a healthy mindset for young children to have.
5. Is everything you hear, read, or see in the media true? Discuss
Not everything heard, read, or seen in the media is true. This is because some stories on the internet are twisted or reworded to make the stories sound more interesting and entertaining. While some things we see on the internet are staged just to cause drama and bring something exciting for news reports to talk about, to spread entertainment around the media, or to make someone look bad. The media consists of many misleading stories and for us to believe everything it has to say is an unhealthy trait. Instead, we should research deeper into the topic ourselves instead of trusting the word from the media only.
