ROLE MODELS AND I

House Of Values

Kindness-

This is an important value to me as it represents respect for you and others but also makes people feel good and worth something. When people are having a bad day, the simple act of being kind can change a person’s whole mood. This can make someone feel worth more, as kindness can show someone is putting in the effort to talk nicely to you. This is shown in day-to-day life, by when you are talking to someone older than you, use formal language such as good morning to greet them. This can make someone super happy, and make someone’s day. Another example is to just say thank you after someone does/gives something to you, this can show appreciation in many ways for what they have done for you, this simple act of kindness can let people know they are appreciated and helpful to you.

Loyalty-

This is an extremely important value to me as it is a way of trusting and knowing who are truly good people. It is great in life, to trust people and know that you have people who will not only help you but also has your trust and you know you can trust them with anything. Loyalty gives you the truth, and without truth in your life, you may as well be living a fake life. Examples of loyalty are, not speaking badly about your friend behind your back. This is a demonstration of loyalty, as you could speak badly about your friends to others maybe to fit in, but you don’t because you are loyal, therefore making you trustful. Another example is, your dog being loyal and being so excited to see you at the door. Dogs are one of the most loyal creatures in the world, therefore they wait for you at the door for you to come home, a true act of loyalty.

Success-

This is a very important value, as success is the key to the world. With no success, you can’t make as much money and the world is money-dependent. Your parents put so much time, effort, and love into what you become and who you are, it would be almost inconsiderate to not live up to their dreams for you. Success is extremely crucial to become what you want, but also to know all the faith put into you has paid off. An example of success is, becoming a surgeon and a doctor, you studied extremely hard and now have succeeded to become what you want.  Another example is, even becoming a chef, you may have wanted to be that for super long so you put in your love and hard work, and eventually,, you succeeded and your hard work paid off. Success can make someone feel fantastic.

“Values are like lighthouses; they are signals giving us direction, meaning and purpose.”

Arthur Schopenhauer

Michelle Obama

What behaviors does this person demonstrate to show that they are healthy?

Michelle Obama has demonstrated many healthy attributes to society. She served as a confident, role model for many women, and continuously advocated for poverty awareness, education (she attended Harvard law school), nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating. Michelle Obama delivered many empowering speeches as the first lady and took initiative as much as she could. One, in particular, she led a public health campaign in the U.S to reduce child obesity for a healthy lifestyle. This is demonstrated as healthy, as she knew that a major problem in the U.S is the fact that little children are becoming overly obese, making her aware of other people and being kind and respectful towards other people. She didn’t need to lead a public health campaign, but out of the goodness of her heart, she decided to. This behavior is repeatedly shown with Michelle Obama always helping people, thriving for feminism and woman’s equality, and going on social media/ tv show interviews and continuously talking about these topics. She demonstrates as a fearless, woman/people activist.

What do they look like? Are they healthy? How do you know?

Michelle Obama is an African- American attorney and author. She is 1.8m and graduated from Harvard Law School. She has black hair, and brown eyes, and has a model-type height. She openly expresses her opinions on healthy eating and working out very frequently. As you know she activates to reduce kids’ obesity, this shows she is well aware of being/needing to be healthy and takes initiative on how to do that. In a recent interview with women’s health magazine, she expressively told she thinks exercise is extremely important not only for physical but mental health but also spends more time swimming or likes cycling. Michelle Obama is a full believer in being healthy in physical and mental health, by saying “Don’t wallow in your low.” She also started a podcast “Michelle Obama Podcast” to talk about all these problems in life, and trying to stay healthy which means being happy or trying to stay fit. Constantly, thriving for a healthy life for everybody.

Good Role Model

What message does this person promote? Why is it inspiring and healthy?

Michelle Obama has always thought education comes first. Herself, being an African- American, she not only shows women can do anything but racism can’t hold you back either. She always promotes continuous education as the most important. Quote, “Don’t’ be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered.” Another is, “We can’t afford to educate girls and give women the power and the access that they need.” All these quotes enthusiastically scream that education to her is extremely important, not only education but striving for people to do the very best they can and not hold themselves back. This is inspiring as many kids and adults all over the world still can’t be educated, this should make us (people who can be educated), be more grateful than ever. It is healthy as, women and girls aren’t given many rights to be educated the same way, so the fact that she stands up for all of the girls/women out there, is the greatest gift of all. Education is very important to help us understand and learn. The way she not only feels this way but provokes her words in a captivating speech makes her words more memorable and inspiring. Her story and so many who came before her, are why we should all listen. Education, is worth more than you can imagine.

Why should young people look up to this person as a role model?

Attorney, author, Harvard, and Princeton graduate. All of these words describe nothing but a confident, intellectual, kind, and successful woman of all time. Not only was she the first lady, but the first lady of many great things. She advocates for education, poverty awareness, and healthiness, no one does this unless willing. This woman not only advocates but feels and uses her rightfully so platform to inform people of the catastrophizes happening around us. Going on tours and video conferences and always having an enlightening smile, she confidently discusses everything. There are many people out there who are smart, maybe even confident too, but Michelle Obama is like no other, she actively thrives for the people around her. No matter how famous she is, she takes time out of her extremely busy life to help people. Kind, smart and successful are words that don’t even begin to describe her impact on society. Younger people need someone to look up to, someone to aspire to be, if Michelle Obama isn’t your candidate I don’t know who will be then!

Thinking back to your House of Values activity, what values does this person demonstrate?

Almost too many to count, Michelle Obama mainly showcases kindness, confidence, and success. Michelle Obama has been known for always helping the people around her, listening to the people, and advocating for them. She has a friendly, calming personality, with a sunny smile, she always talks politely, constantly demonstrating kindness. Michelle Obama always almost has confidence. She does advocate for many people, with a proud and loud voice. Having a straight back, and going into everything she has with 110%, she works with pride. Confidence is Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama, was just a girl from Chicago, but little did people know back then she would be the first lady, author, attorney, and not to mention Harvard graduate. She worked with everything she got and helped herself, and that’s why she was successful. Michelle Obama deserves completely the success she has gotten.

Britney Spears

What behaviors does this person demonstrate to show that they are unhealthy?

Britney Spears’s behaviors are shown as unhealthy by taking drugs and acting aggressively. Over the years, she has gotten into many scandals, and lawsuits, and has constantly shown destructive behavior. Examples of this unhealthy behavior, are being an avid drug user, angrily attacking paparazzi with her umbrella, and runs a red light, and then making an illegal turn into oncoming traffic. All this erratic behavior, has shown that she is an unhealthy person, as using illegal drugs and making illegal turns on the road, is not supported by society, therefore should not be at all portrayed as a healthy role model. Britney spears, and has committed not just once but a lot of inappropriate/ illegal behavior, showcasing, she hasn’t just done this by the mistake and definitely hasn’t learned from her mistakes, as she shows no signs of improvement even in recent years. Making, her an unhealthy person.

Bad Role Model

What do they look like? Do they look unhealthy? How do you know?

Britney spears is known for her excessive amount of makeup, curly blonde hair, and blue eyes. She is a world-renown American singer and dancer. She is often referred to as the ‘Princess of Pop.’ She is 40 years old and was known to influence the teen-pop styles of fashion. Britney Spears has been multiple times spotted intaking drugs and walking the streets recklessly. This shows that is not normal behavior and normal look, as most people don’t take drugs and walk the streets recklessly. Walking recklessly is unhealthy, as it shows instability and not being in the right mindset. Taking drugs is illegal, and is illegal for a reason to prevent dangerous behavior, therefore when Britney Spears takes drugs, it shows bad and wrong behavior. All these bad and wrong behaviors and appearances show an unhealthy person.

What message does this celebrity promote? Why is it unhealthy?

Multiple times, Britney Spears has promoted Pepsi commercials by using her many fan pages and “desirable features,” to entice people to buy more Pepsi cans. Pepsi contains much sugar, and having this much of the drink can cause obesity, weight gain, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions. Pepsi is not the healthiest thing to promote, and with a huge target the audience to influence, you might want to promote healthier campaigns or promotes things such as preventing child labor/woman’s rights, but instead Britney Spears decided to promote Pepsi. It’s fine to promote Pepsi, but she never promoted anything somewhat healthy the whole time. Pepsi is very unhealthy and promoting that instead of healthier options, with a massive fan base who would listen to you, is very unhealthy. People should be taught to promote things they believe in and not just because they pay you and give you money.

Do you think young people should look up to this person as a role model? Why or why not?

I don’t think young people should look up to Britney Spears. Britney has been consistently found and showcased as a drug taker and reckless person. Drugs are illegal and bad for you for a reason, so young people are mainly influenced especially by their ‘role models,’ therefore if Britney were to be perceived as a   good role model, many kids would start to do drugs. This is because, it is human psychology to see someone you aspire to be, and want to be just like them, so knowing that Britney is associated with drugs, young people might start to do drugs. It’s not just about the drugs, but also the way she handles her messes and problems. Britney openly shared many confidential documents, emails, and texts. She had been struggling with mental health a lot and has been very open with the media, but to leak, these important documents is very irresponsible and shows a reckless person. Reckless and irresponsible people, I’m sure are people whose parents do not want their younger kids looking up to them. This could influence a younger kid into a wrong behavior and believe that this is the normal/ right thing to do. Therefore, I believe young people should not look up to Britney Spears as a role model.

Is everything you hear, read or see in the media true? Discuss.

Everything you hear, read or see in the media is not always true. Many times the media will for money’s sake/ trying to appeal to the audience, will lie and not tell the truth about the story. This can be for many reasons and isn’t always intentional to hurt the person’s feelings. The media uses famous people to appeal to viewers, and therefore comes at influencers to make a drama that would get them more fame and viewings. Sometimes even, the media won’t lie fully they will just twist the truth. Lying doesn’t always need to be fully lying, it can be little white lies, but those white lies can be the most interesting for people to view. Twisting the truth can make the story more interesting, but not only that but is a smart move because it’s not like the media is full-on lying about the topic, but just making it more appealing and interesting. The media is not always truthful, sometimes half and sometimes is, that’s why it is extremely important that people aren’t gullible and cross-check your answers with other sources or get a first-hand/ primary source reference. Everything you hear, read, and see in the media can or cannot be truthful.
