Archery is an amazing sport. You shoot an arrow using a bow at a target to gain points. The closer you get to the center. The more points you scored. I am lucky to have been part of this sport to shoot an arrow. Use a bow. Aim at a target. This has been a great experience. The thing that I think is the most interesting part of Archery is how it started back more than 10,000 years ago as something you do to gather food, but now people do it because it is a recreation activity.
In the first lesson, I didn’t miss the target once. Most of my arrows landed around 5-7. I managed to shoot a few 8’s. Once I got a 10! I’ll treasure that moment for a long time. I got the hang of archery quite quickly. In the second lesson, I got practically only 9’s with a few of the targets and low scores here and there. I learned that you have to have an anchor point on your cheek. After that, I was getting most of my arrows on the target. Lesson 3. Lesson 3 was amazing. I had had an amazing streak getting most of my arrows in one specific spot on the target. Sadly it wasn’t the middle. We had attached ballons on the target and we tried popping them. I popped one once. Someone else popped it after that once a new balloon had been attached. You’ll never guess what happened after that. I shot the part of the ballon that was dangling from the pin with my arrow. The balloon had popped and there was still a small part that was attached to the target. I hit that part. It was amazing. To top it off someone else from my team got a 10X. That lesson was amazing our Team was amazing.
When the teacher told us to get our arrows more quickly, my team wasn’t sure what to do so we just decided that I would score the arrows and my partner would take the arrows out. We were the first ones to take all our arrows back to the stand so we kept on doing that technique again and again. Since we were communicating the best out of all the groups we were able to get some time in between the parts where you fired the arrows. Me and my team showed effective communication by working together and being efficient in doing a job. We sometimes helped others because we had time to spare. When I was actually shooting the arrows I had to be self-aware of my surroundings. I had to think before I shot, I had to be careful I didn’t hurt anyone around me, I had to make sure that I was following every rule that we had been taught to make sure that nothing bad happened! Luckily I did all of this and no one was injured (I think). I also remember having to be organized so I wasn’t late for class (We had to leave at 1:25 to get there at 1:30). I also had to make sure everything was set up perfectly for me so I could shoot the arrows with efficiency. This has helped me never run late for class because I learned that you have to leave earlier than you think. Doing archery is a good sport because it is fun and helps grow your muscles by pulling that string back, but it also helps you learn lifelong skills that will make you a better person.
When we go out onto the oval for archery we have to make sure that we pick up all the rubbish we leave there. When the balloons were attached to the target, and when a balloon was popped, the rubber from the balloon fell onto the ground. After that, we picked up and helped others pick up all the rubbish that was lying at the bottom of the target. We did this to make sure as little rubbish went into nature to protect it. Part of Outdoor ED is taking care of our world, I mean, without an environment we can’t go outside and do fun activities such as archery. Every time we go out to archery there is always a piece of rubbish which gets picked up and put in a bag.
After all of this, I still think of archery as a sport, a recreational activity, a calming exercise, and a way to keep the world clean. Archery is an amazing sport, which I am proud to be part of.
