Alcohol Awareness – Health Expo

As a part of our alcohol circuit in Health we were given the task of educating our fellow peers about the dangers, risks, and side – effects of alcohol consumption. Each group was encouraged to present their learning in a creative format, which would take place in an exposition during Term 3 Week 7. This project gave me the oppurtunity to develop my collaboration skills, and has taught me much more about alcohol in general.

Question 1 – What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

I have learnt a variety of new topics and ideas about alcohol during this process, which will contribute to my decision – making in the future. In order to successfully present our knowledge on alcohol during the expo, I needed to sustain good collaboration with my group members. During every week we set goals, and assigned our self with tasks to complete by the end of each lesson. We had to carefully communicate with each other to reach this level of organisation, and we needed to be open and accepting of everyone’s ideas. Therefore, my knowledge and experience with collaboration was definitely improved during this task, as we needed to work well together to make progress.

Question 2 – What one piece of advice would you pass on to young teenagers above all else? Why?

Life can be very stressful and confusing, which is one of the main reasons as to why teenagers turn to alcohol. Binge – drinking may give you a sense of temporary relief, however it is not worth the long – term impact it will have on your physical and mental state. If I had one piece of advise for young teenagers I would advise them to never start drinking before the age of 18, and to never fall under the influence of peer pressure.

Question 3 – Write down a pledge that you will commit to if you start drinking alcohol (at the legal age of 18 years). Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitment?

I pledge to never drink in an irresponsible manner, and I will constantly remain mature with my decision making, (e.g. gain assistance from a friend, avoid drunk driving, etc).

Based on my research I have realised how dangerous alcohol is, and understand the serious consequences that can be caused because of it. Through these decisions I can reduce my vulnerability, and will remain much more safe and protected. These commitments are a constant reminder to stay reasonable with my alcohol consumption, and it has forever changed my perspective on the consequences and effects of drinking.
