Sayuri Taaffe- About me

I am a hard-working student who has been at All Saints’ College for the past 4-5 years and now I am in the second year of senior school. Learning and adding onto my knowledge is one of my interests and I’m excited about the challenges ahead. In the past year, I was a house captain and I have had lots of opportunities such as going to go to the GRIP conference, speeches, helping, and running events. This has helped me to be a more responsible, organised and productive person and leader.

I study/ learn music, I have been learning the piano and violin for the past 4 years and the French-horn for the past 2-3 years, I’m apart of my schools’ band and orchestra. I’ve also learned some traditional Japanese instruments before such as the Koto and Shinobue. I have been doing ballet since I was 4 years old as well as Jazz and contemporary since I was 6 years old. At my ballet school back in Wollongong, I was able to perform with the Russian Ballet Company in the ballet production the “Nutcracker”. I’m currently swimming a couple of times a week.

Being half Japanese my parents and I travel overseas to see our friends and family in Japan. I also get the opportunity to go to school over there. I go to Japanese school on Saturdays over here in Perth and go together with my friends from that class to the Japan Festival held yearly in Elizabeth Quay. Sometimes we will travel down to Busselton and Margret River.

One of my most proud moments is when I take a new opportunity & try new things. Being very hesitant at first, for enrolling to become house captain I decided to go out of my comfort zone to try it. From this, I got many wonderful experiences.

One of the most important capabilities/ word(s) to me is being able to have a flexible mindset. With a flexible mindset, I am able to adapt to situations. I am more willing & able to grow as well as improve as a learner. This also allows me to see through others’ ‘perspectives. One of my most proud moments is when I take a new opportunity & try new things.

I can work independently but I also enjoy interacting with others during projects and group work. I’m always curious about what others’ ideas are and opinions. In the end, it’s amazing that all our ideas could come up with something that can be innovative and help others.

I believe that I am someone who is very goal oriented. I am someone who perseveres in order to achieve goals no matter how long it takes. Whether it has got to do with a school project or assignment, learning & going to all the rehearsals for ballet & dance or even memorising music for an upcoming concert.
