What is water pollution?

Water pollution can be shortly defined as contamination of water bodies. Water pollution is caused when water bodies get contaminated with industrial and agricultural effluents.

How does water pollution affect the water cycle?

Some of the things that happen to the water cycle because of water pollution are: lack of potable water, contamination of food chain, disease and many more.

How can we prevent water pollution?

Some of the things we can do to prevent water pollution can be as simple as picking up some of our own rubbish and putting it into the bin.

To prevent water pollution, we can take actions such as picking up our own rubbish and putting it into the bin so that it doesn’t mix with water body.

What are oil spills?

The definition of an oil spill is when an amount of oil escapes into the sea or a water body.

How do oil spills affect the water cycle?

If the oil was to go into a freshwater source, the water we would use to drink and wash our hands etc, would become contaminated. Acid rain is another result of the oil spills interfering with the water cycle.

How can we prevent oil spills?

We can reduce the amount of oil spills in the world by:

  • Decreasing our use of fossil fuels
  • Choosing more fuel efficient things
  • Using green energy

What is grey water?

Grey water is the waste water from things like the bath, sinks, washing machines and other kitchen and bathroom appliances. When treated, it can be used to irrigate a garden. Grey water is most of your waste water.
