Chicken Project

Recently All Saints’ started looking after chickens. During InnovatED we were tasked with looking after and monitoring the chickens. This included caring, cleaning and ensuring they had enough food and water to survive and produce healthy eggs. For this project, we had to have a good understanding of chickens and find sustainable and innovative ways of looking after them.

My group consisted of Mallika, Zoey, Aidan and Eva. We were responsible for making a roster to ensure all the jobs have been.

The design thinking process

Empathize

The first step of this was to do research and familiarize ourselves with the lifestyle of chicken. We researched some of the necessities of chicken survival, these included the basic needs of the chickens, such as their prefered food, habits and suitable habitats for backyard chickens.

Define

Once all we knew what the chickens needed, we took the information and applied it to the problem. Our problem was to find a suitable way to organise the jobs to ensure that they are all done.

Ideate

We also needed to think about how we can improve the jobs to it better and comfortable for the chickens, we also tried to make it sustainable so it was better for the environment.

Once we figured out all of the jobs, we separated them into different categories, which were daily, weekly and monthly.

Prototype

I was in charge of making the weekly roster. I ensured that I included all necessary jobs, this mostly included cleaning as they didn’t need to be done every day but still needed to be done quite regularly.

Showcase

For the showcase we split the

What would I do differently?I think I should have talked more with the other groups to understand their projects, so we could have to know clearly what of the specific jobs included. This is so would have better jobs that included their ideas in the roster instead of calling it a basic job
Aspects I found challengingI found the formating the most challenging. This is because I had to make sure all the jobs were completed and had to allocate who would do what, to ensure that not only one person was doing all the work. I found it challenging because it was hard to figure out a way to include all the elements of the project without making it confusing.
Parts I enjoyed the most. The part I enjoyed most was working with the chickens. I liked it because it was enjoyable to work with them as it was hands-on while still learning at the same time.
