This project was introduced to the year 7 cohort at the beginning of term 2 and ended in term 3. This project was about re-designing Fremantle Port after its relocation. We had the opportunity to take a bus ride all around Fremantle to get an idea about what we would be replacing and how much land we actually have at our disposal. We were given a piece of the Port on a cardboard map and tasked to design it with what we came up with for our area of the Port.

“The Giver” was a book given to us to read by Ms Shaw, The Giver was an overview of what the project was going to be about. The Giver is a film about a boy named Jonas finding flaws in a so-called perfect world. We based our Freo Utopia off of “The Giver” and related it to our project. We read the book and watched the movie of The Giver with Ms Shaw and had an assessment on it a while later.
A while after we finished The Giver, we were tasked to make a speech about our project. When the time came to present the speech to the class, we were recording everyone’s speech to look back at our own and give ourselves feedback to do better. Later on, in the term we presented the improved speech to experts and parents. This was the final part of our Project Utopia. We received all our marks and feedback from Ms Shaw and we then moved on from Project Utopia.
