What was $20 Boss? What was Econmie?

$20 Boss is an InnovatED elective in which your goal is to group together with others and create a product and hopefully successful business. CEOs were selected and groups were decided after job interviews. I became part of Econime, a group dedicated to making ‘eco-friendly anime merchandise’. Our business was creating stickers, prints and stands of different anime characters that were cheap and eco-friendly, unlike many other figurines.

This is the ASC Capabilities Wheel, it is a wheel of skills that can be applied to any situation. This includes future jobs, university…etc. Some of these capabilities could have been used more by our group while some were used continually.

What went well? What could we have improved on?

I believe that many things went well. Our time management and collaboration were all excellent. We were able to make a reasonable amount of products by the day of the market, all of the good quality. Because of our good time management, we could even make changes to our products such as laminating them and creating a website linked here: https://econime.carrd.co/#about. Also, our collaboration was excellent with few arguments between members, instead, we had constructive conversations over a teams chat. Because of this, less time was wasted and more used for product making or working on other parts.

One aspect that we could have improved on was the variety of products. This leads to the capability of creativity as a larger amount of products and variety could have been made in the time we had. One example of this occurring was that we were not able to make stickers. This was because I contracted Covid-19 near the time of the market and was unable to make stickers as I had all the materials necessary.

Design Thinking Process

Within the project, creating ideas was a large part of our business. One example of this was when we were told that more different products would be better than just prints. We decided on making stickers and stands to have a larger quantity of products. We as a group agreed that adapting our range of sellable items would result in a more profitable and better business. Unfortunately as mentioned before, we were not able to make stickers that we believe would have sold very well.

This is a list of the cash sales we made during the market. From cash alone, we made a total of $107.
This shows the total sales made by EFTPOS and cash, along with the total we made inside and outside of the market. We made $356.50 after subtracting the donation to charity and the additional money we got from returning unused bags.

This $20 Boss experience was very successful and fun in my opinion. Overall I would definitely recommend this although it does require a lot of work and collaboration. I look forward to working with my group members again in the future!
