Something that I have achieved throughout this year is my ability to better balance study and entertainment. In previous years I have struggled to create a balance between playing games and preparing for schoolwork. I struggled in that my weekends would often be spent simply playing games or procrastinating for assessments. This, naturally, did not play a huge role in improving my grades, time management or organisation.

The process that took me to my achievement was in no way easy. My parents were a large reason for why I achieved this as they offered many words of encouragement. By doing just this, I feel they played a large role in me being able to balance study and entertainment without confiscating things such as my phone or other devices, instead they acted as a reminder that I should aim to have a balance. Due to being exposed to many forms of entertainment prior to this year, it has taken several years to have a better balance of study and entertainment. For the duration of these years, I have tried to follow and maintain a similar process. Most of my devices, which are the main source of entertainment and distraction, would remain untouched until the weekends. Upon reaching the weekends I would try to be more conscious of time and organise time for work and play by dedicating more or less time for study based on what I had left to do.

Achieving, or at least improving on a long-term goal I had has felt good partly because of how difficult it has been and the benefits that it has seemed to bring. Although rest and entertainment are important, the amount of time I spent dedicated to resting seemed too extreme. Even now, I can still struggle with having a balance, so I believe it is important for me maintain good habits for later years or higher education.
