What were the biggest things you learned while at the RACbstreetsmart excursion?
The biggest things that I learned while at the RAC excursion were definitely the importance of limiting distractions while driving, and what to do in case of an emergency. Limiting distractions while inside of a vehicle such as a car is critical in prevention of emergencies and reducing the likelihood of fatal injury. However, in addition to this, the correct protocol on what to do in case of an emergency is just as important. From my time at the excursion I learned that there’s truly no telling when an emergency may occur on the road so understanding what to do in case I am put in those circumstances is just as crucial as preventative measures.
What one piece of advice would you pass on to young drivers above all else? Why?
The one piece of advice that I would pass on is that driving a vehicle, particularly in certain situations, is inherently dangerous and preventing emergencies by limiting distractions, refraining from drunk driving, and not speeding should genuinely be considered. The reason being is that after experiencing the RACbstreetsmart excursion, I gained a greater understanding as to how dangerous driving really is however this may not be the case for many other young drivers.
Write down a pledge that you will commit to when you start driving. Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitments?
I pledge to drive safely by staying sober, preventing distractions that stem from my phone, and abiding by the speed limit.
I chose these things to abide by and commit to because I believe that they are the best ways that I can ensure the safety of others and myself when driving. To stick to these commitments I can ask my family members who I often spend time with to consistently remind me of my pledge and to uphold these road safety habits.
