Road Safety Campaign

Planning a Road Safety Campaign

Plan your road safety campaign by completing each section of this table. Ensure that this is submitted with your assignment.

Road Safety Issue Why is it an issue for young people? (Statistics – age, gender, rural or metro, trends, government focus…)   1 in 5 drivers and riders are killed due to drink driving   43% of Australians dont know how much is the legal limit   P platers or L platers caught over the limit can face a six months jail sentence
Sources of Information Why is this source reliable for young drivers to refer to?    Because it uses statistics run by or funded by the government
Aim of the Campaign What results do you want to achieve? (A reduction in road fatalities and injuries due to…)      A reduce of speeding in young drivers
Key Information What information does the target group need to know? (Statistics, effects on the body, ways to stay safer…)    How many people are killed/injured and what the legal limit for p platers are
The Safety Message or Slogan of the Campaign What is it? Why is this message going to suit young people?    Because it will show statistics and plans that relate to young people
Medium to be Used What is the best way to deliver the message? (Pamphlet, poster, newspaper or television advertisement targeted at high viewing times, mail out….      A poster is the best way to advertise this, it will be put out onto public transport and buses and can be easily digested by most people.
Communication Approach How will the campaign be presented to engage young people? (Humour, realistic, portrayal, consequences, role models…)    It will show people real life statistics and what they can do to stay within the legal limit
What were the biggest things you learned while at the RAC bstreetsmart excursion?      The biggest thing I learnt during this excursions was how damaging alcohol and speeding was and how many people it killed per year. I learnt real peoples stories and how making mistakes like that can cause life changing issues. Watching the live re-enactment made me want to rethink if I ever got into a car where I could be in a situation like that
What one piece of advice would you pass on to young drivers above all else?   Why?    I would tell them to ensure they are well versed in the laws and regulations especially for their specific license period, for example P platers cannot have a BAC of over 0%. If young people aren’t aware of the laws they can’t follow them and they could put themselves in incredibly dangerous situations
Write down a pledge that you will commit to when you start driving.   Why did you pick these things to commit to?   How will you stick to these commitments?I will ensure to obey the road laws at all time and not succumb to peer pressure from reckless passengers, I will always stay within the legal alcohol limit and I will never speed recklessly.  I chose these because things like speeding and drunk driving are the leading causes of road deaths amongst young drivers. I will stick to these agreements by holding myself accountable and having friends to hold me accountable.
