InnovatED Circus Nine is Mine

During the second semester of 2022 I did the circus program in collaboration with the Nine is Mine campaign.

Nine is Mine is a campaign launched in Delhi, India on October 16, 2016 by more than 4,500 children. The campaign is a participatory children’s advocacy initiative to call for 9% of the gross domestic product to be committed to health and education.

Beginning with the end in mind.

Somewhere in the middle of the semester the class after reading the stories that we were given last term from actual kids from India, decided on the few that we wanted to make stories out of and how we were going to transform these written stories into actions as a circus performance. In the end we had selected 3-5 similar stories and merged then with those that were similar to get 3 different parts of the performance.

Producing the performance.

After we had got our act together and was time to create the performance we split up into separate groups for the individual stories before getting the introduction in the works and how we were going to introduce what we were talking about. This took us some weeks to get ready before the week before we were going to perform we realized that we were not going to be ready and needed to think of something quick to do at the performance that was at least semi-related to the Nine is Mine campaign and will get the point across of what we have been looking at not in just the semester but during the entire year. With this we ended up creating a performance that was not as ambitious but was simple enough to get the Nine is Mine campaign across to the audience.

The final performance

I was unwell and was unable to make the final performance but re-watching the video I was able to notice that the performance was well done but the audience was unable to express that they enjoyed the performance. Putting on a bit more pressure on us and how we did the performance.
