$20 boss

$20 boss was an amazing experience in which I learned so much in such a short amount of time. This project was a full semester long however it felt like only a few weeks. It was incredibly enjoyable and I would definitely do it again.

Capabilities

During this process we used many capabilities. These capabilities helped shape our idea to become what they are now. There were however three main capabilities that we used the most throughout this process. These included Collaboration, Hard work and ethical thinking. With these capabilities we were able to function as a group.

Collaboration

Collaboration was a huge part in every group’s success. It was a vital capability that every single person needed to execute for their group to be victorious. My group was amazing with their collaboration skills. Each member showed that they were valuable as they were a team player who knew when they needed to swallow their pride and ask for help. During the ideating process collaboration was especially vital as we all needed to convey our ideas in a way that would help each member of the group understand it.

Hardworking

Throughout this tedious process my group maintained a hardworking mindset. This means that we stayed focused when we could and tried our best to waste as little time as possible. I feel as though we did this well despite a little drop in productivity during the middle of our product making. After this drop we needed to work harder over those last few weeks to make sure we had the products we wanted made. So if I were to do it again I would try to stay consistent and make sure I spread the work out as evenly as possible.

Ethical thinking

Ethical thinking is something that takes practice. You have to be put in certain situations to be able to think ethically and quickly. Sometimes in a business there are cases where you don’t know what to do and you have to just wing it. That happened in our business a few times. An example of this was when we weren’t selling too well at the market and we needed to come up with a solution that would solve this problem. We decided to drop the prices by a dollar and that helped us sell a lot more. This was a great idea and helped us gain a greater understanding of the phrase thinking on your feet means as that was what we had to do.

Process

The process of me coming up with the idea to do tie-dye hacky sacks is actually quite a simple one. I built off of an already existing product that I had made last year and turned it into a better higher quality product. Last year at the Christmas market I decided to do hacky sacks and they were a big hit. This is why I decided to do them again this year. Although another great idea I heard was tie-dye socks and I knew that the material used to make the hacky sack was sock and so I though that if I tie-dyed socks I could cut them and make tie-dye hack sacks.

Overview

To look back on this project I think that it was an amazing process that helped everyone doing $20 dollar boss to further understand just how hard it is to run a business. I do feel that it is a necessary step for all students. I would also just like to thank the teachers involved as they helped me specifically to think more clearly about a business and what it takes to run one.
