Alcohol Awareness Presentation

Alcohol

Alcohol is a substance that effects many people all over the world. It is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and that is what we did through this project. For this assessment we were given a certain amount of topics on alcohol to create a presentation to further educate people on how dangerous alcohol can be. To start off our presentation we went through a PowerPoint in which we all talked about the topics given to us about alcohol. In the next few minutes we moved on to our fun game where you had three tries to score a basketball into a hoop but with a twist. The twist was that you had to wear drunk goggles. Finally, as we were wrapping up we had infographics that we handed out to make sure the student who came to our stall remember an overview of the information we presented to them.

Biggest things I learnt

Through the duration of this project I acquired many new skills and abilities. For the first three weeks of our process to create this presentation, one of my team member was away spending quality time with his family. Due to this, each member of the group had to work extra hard to make sure we would have enough done for our group member to just slot in. I would say that these first three weeks made me realise and learn something. If work isn’t done ,even if it isn’t your job, just do it. By that work not getting done it would have put the team’s whole schedule back and we wouldn’t have been ready to present by week 7. This skill I feel can be applied to anything you choose to apply it to. In a way I’m glad one of my team mates wasn’t there for the first few weeks simply because I was able to learn this new and important ability.

Creativeness is a very important thing on its own. It is a vital component to many aspects of school life. Over the years I have been at school I have had to do many projects where my creativity was put to the test. However for these projects we were given a set category and that is what our project had to be based on. For this assignment it was more open and we got to create our own way of presenting our ideas to listeners. At first it was hard to think of a way we could make something fun and informational at the same time, but after a lot of thinking, I came up with the idea to use drunk goggles to help give people a perspective on what it is like to be drunk. I am not the most creative person but I feel those skills are developing over time and this project has clearly helped these abilities to progress even further.

Two more abilities that I gained throughout this process were influenced by the same thing. We were put in group for this project. The first ability is teamwork. My time in school has helped me to become a team player, keep my chin up and get my work done. This project has only helped these skills grow further but also allowed me to practice them even more. Spreading work evenly, communicating with each other and helping each other are only a few example of what being a fair group members means to me and I feel as though I was one of those during this project. The second ability I feel I worked more on was my leadership skills. While in those health classes I made sure everyone was getting their work done while still enjoying the class. At the end of the class I talked to everyone about what was expected of them to get done by the next lesson. I notified everyone before the final presentation about what was needed of them and what they should bring to be ready. I felt obliged to take on these responsibilities as I not only want to get a good mark but also want to further enhance my leadership skills.

Piece of advise

Teenagers all over the world make reckless decisions for dumb reasons. One of those reasons may be that they are being peer pressured. Another one of those reasons may be that they don’t have enough experience dealing with something they choose to do. Whatever the reason may be, the majority of teens have made at least one stupid decision over the years. My piece of advise I would like all teenagers to know would have to be that you are never alone. If you do end up making an idiotic decision that you will always regret, don’t be afraid to tell someone. Whether you tell you grandma, your grandpa, your mum, your dad and even your sibling it doesn’t matter as long as you tell someone. Even if you feel you will be in a world of trouble, someone will always have your back. I feel as though this message is very important, as a lot of teens may think they have done something so horrific that they can’t tell anyone and they feel alone and scared. Don’t feel tis way and tell someone, we all make mistakes.

Pledge

I pledge myself to never drink alcohol.

It is a detriment to your health and wellbeing and so I don’t think it is something I would like to be consuming ever. I chose to pledge myself to this because my dad is a doctor and he has seen so many peoples’ lives ruined by this substance. In my opinion it is just as bad as any drug our there. Alcohol also can have a very negative effect on athletes bodies and that is another reason I never wat to drink. I will stick to this pledge for three reasons. The first is that it is harmful to your health and so I don’t want to put myself in bad situations that could easily be preventable. The second is that I plan to be an athlete for as long as possible and drinking might shorten that time. Finally, the third reason is that I will never test it out or try any alcohol as this is how some people get addicted.
