Characters, Plot, Setting
The goonies is an adventure film released in 1985 and directed by Richard Donnor. It’s a story about a group of misfit friends called the goonie lead by Mickey Walsh determined to stay in the goon docks (his home). They set out to find lost treasure. Along the mission they run into a criminal family called the Fratelli’s who try and stop them. The film Utilities the techniques of camera shots, dialogue, music, body language and facial expressions to construct the idea of importance of family and friends.
The film uses the techniques of close shots and camera movements to convey the importance of having friends and sticking with them. An example of how camera movement is used is in the scene when the goonies are stuck down the well and Andy asks Troy to help them. In this scene the camera moves from one goonies face to another and they look at each other with admiration. This movement connects the gap and shows how much they need each other.
Another technique used in this film is dialogue. This is used in the scene where they notice that Troy is at the top of the well and can help them escape. Mickey tries to convince them to stay but Andy just wants to be safe again she says “I am not a goonie” and micky Walsh remembers what needs to be done and says “the next time you see the sky it will be over another town next time you take a test it will be in another school…”
The idea of family and friends are important is conveyed though the use of dialogue body language and facial expressions. An example of body language is shown in the last part of the movie where the Goonies and their families run towards each other. They hug and embrace each other in a loving way. They all have big smiles on their faces showing how happy they are so see each other, this shows how important the children are to the parents and how important it is to be as a family.
It is evident that The Goonies is a film that explores the idea of the importance of family and friendship. The movies has used a range of film techniques such as camera shots and angles, dialogue and music. The film shows that friendship and family is very important. The goonies is a adventure movie but in my personal opinion it is also a movie about the importance of staying together.
