This semester in woodwork we made spinning tops. Before we could start we had to do extensive safety work on on-guard to make sure we knew how to safely use the machines and what to do in case of an emergency so we had to be self-aware and organised so we knew what we needed to know and learn and so we would not get hurt. Then we started learning how to use the bench and pedestal drills and drilled the first two holes which would be used to spin the spinning top, then we learnt how to use the disk and belt sander combo and the scroll saw in which we needed to use problem-solving and effective communication if we did not know what to do. After this, we designed the handle in which we needed to use problem-solving and creativity as some of our designs would not work because the wood would be too thin or the handle too short. Next, we drew our design onto the handle and cut out the parts of this, we had to use problem solving and resilience because if you made a mistake you could not undo it and had to find a way to fix it. Lastly, we sanded and finished the product by hand except for some of the more difficult places to sand so we could finish in time we used the spiral sander.
