Specialised Basketball
Introduction

Throughout the semester I have been able to experience the specialized basketball course where I have been able to pick up many skills and drills and improve my game. Over the past semester we have been taught many things like offence and defense which has been broken down into many different category’s e.g., Endurance/fitness, shooting, dribbling, screening, help defense and man on man to name a few. This course has been very helpful for me as it has greatly helped me to improve how I play. Throughout, we have also gone through many drills we can implement in our practices to help us get better and also courses to help with not just basketball, but all things sport related. Some of these courses include a dietary course about how to stay healthy and fit while still getting enough of the right foods to grow and get stronger, recovery course about how we can recover quicker and some ways to keep our body in top shape when it comes to injuries or pains. We have also done things like a coaching course which has given us a chance to become coaches in the future.
Skills
Throughout this semester long program, we have gone over and learnt many different skills and drills to improve our game. Starting off this course I could not shoot very well and had a bad form when it game to shooting. This negatively impacted my performance so the most helpful thing I took from the course was shooting with proper form and drills to help me succeed in this. Some of these drills I found most helpful for fixing my form and improving are sitting or kneeling under the rim and shooting from your knees with proper form the help with proper hand and wrist movement and to help get strength in my wrist for shooting. Another drill was jus 1v1 but in triple threat ready in shooting form so you can shoot, pass or dribble in one motion.
Another thing that helped me in 1v1 from the free throw line. You would be given a certain number of dribbles and you would start from the free throw line. This helped with choosing your moves carefully and reading your opponent as with only one or two dribbles to get to the basket or get an open shot it was quite hard.
Courses
Throughout the semester we went through many courses to help us like dietary and what are the best things to eat and stay healthy while still getting enough nutrition, coaching and refereeing course to become a coach or ref in the future. The best course for me was the recovery or the strapping course. I think these were the best because they help me personally a lot as I get injured quite often and have grown quite a lot quite quickly, so my muscles are very tight quite often. This has helped me as it has taught me some better ways to get better quicker and recover faster and stronger than before. The strapping course has also helped as before I would get my ankles taped very often by my mom as she knew how but now I can do it by myself which can save time and means I can do it when I need if I need to do it when at the event or during the event.
Six week Program

Through this course we have also done a six week program tailored to our self about what we do in a week. This includes all sports, schoolwork and other activities we do which must include endurance and strength training, recovery, nutrition, flexibility and skill development. Here is my six week program of how I would like to spend my time to improve and get better while still staying healthy.
