Entry for 2023 Achievement
In 2023 I achieved a high placement in the SSWA team triathlon event. In this event I was nominated as the rider and as a team we placed 7th. As an individual I placed 14th in the ride section of the course catching up from 25th. This ride was a 16km ride around Champions Lake that I finished in 32 minutes and 30 seconds with an average pace of 30 kph. Leading up to this event I did Multiple training sessions.
Training for this event I spent my time doing more fitness training rather than on the bike as I was confident with my cycle ability and wanted to improve my overall fitness. I knew the bike I was riding well so this was not an issue I had to overcome. Due to multiple injuries over the past few months including a fractured right ankle and multiple knee injuries this was my main concern when preparing for this event. I spent a lot of my training doing either running training for stamina and for ankle and knee movement, alongside time doing physiotherapy or in the gym to stretch out, repair and strengthen my muscles. Exercises like calf raises and squats helped to get my legs back into shape after some time out. The time it took did vary as I was constantly taking my fitness and my rehabilitation for my injuries started before I found out the triathlon date. The sign up for the event was only released about 1 month before the triathlon so the last month leading up to the event was the main time I spent training going on a few rides however still mainly focusing on my strengthening.
After completing this event I was very pleased with my results and the result of the team however we all believe we could have achieved higher and better results altogether improving our overall time of just over 50 minutes. We are hoping to redo this event next year and are all training to do our best at a top three medal position. To do this would be hard however we believe that it is possible if we continue to train and improve like we did over the time leading up to the event.
