My Working Future

Some specific tasks that are associated with nursing are monitoring patient health, recording patient symptoms, taking detailed notes about medical history, collaborating with the medical team, administering medication and other treatments, using medical equipment, taking samples and perform tests and educating patients about their illness. Some specific tasks that are associated with teaching are planning and preparing lessons, encouraging student participation, researching and developing new teaching materials, research and implementing new teaching methods, marking student work and recording performance, setting assessments and overseeing examinations. Nursing is part of the medical industry and teaching is part of the education and trading industry. Some very successful nurses are Florence Nightingale, Clara Barton, Mary Breckinridge.

My Learning

My Favourite subjects at the moment are science and cooking. This is because I find them very interesting. At the moment I’m doing the subjects of English, Applications maths, science, Hass, Drama and food. The subjects that I would like to study next year English, Applications maths, Biology, Politics and Drama. The subjects that I actually picked for year 11 and 12 were English, Maths Applications, Human Biology, Psychology, Chemistry and Drama. I chose these as these are subjects that I enjoy. Some learning habits and study skills I could improve on are  adapting a positive mental attitude, work out where you’re falling short, talk to your teachers, pay more attention in class – and ask questions, start organising your life, improve your note-taking skills and improve your essay-writing skills. The best ways I like to learn is to write palm cards, write a good set of notes and make a quizlet. Somethings that I can learn from school that doesn’t require me to be in a class room is communication and social skills. Some learning that I have undertaken out of school I learnt how to use an eftpos machine at my work at a café. The three most important lessons that I have learnt in my life are to be kind, always be selfless and to never lie. I can study medicine at Murdoch university, open universities, UWA and ECU.

Year 9 Camp – Leadership

Earlier this year the year nines departed on a six-day camp experience to Kalbarri. I believe this camp helped me to create a better understanding of what leadership means. Each night we had to camp in our own tents and each morning we had to take them down again as we moved our way through the beautiful gorges of Kalbarri.

We were given many opportunities on this camp to demonstrate our leadership skills in our many different activities such as cooking, hiking and packing all our food. Our first night was spent at base camp which was located at the Tudor Caravan Park. The main thing on our to-do list that night was to pack all our food for the next six days. This process was very time consuming as all the food had to be packed into different boxes and crates and placed in the trailer. The thing that made this process so much harder was the fact that our camp guides just stood back and watched, leaving us having to take leadership of what we were doing and packing. Being the very first day of camp in a group with people that wouldn’t normally interact with each other no one wanted to step up and take the lead.

We all decided to vote on who we thought should lead; three people were chosen from this process, me being one of them. Within no time I began labelling boxes for our different meals and allocating people to collect the different food groups. Once this process was done and all the different meal boxes for each of the six days were packed, I checked the list one last time to ensure we had successfully collected everything. There were many other situations just like this one where someone had to step up and take leadership or we all had to work collectively as a team, but this moment really stood out for me.
