Nulsen Youth Patron

After a careful interview selection process I was selected to be one of ten Nulsen youth patrons. My job as a Patron was to go to each of the resident’s homes and make sure they are comfortable as well as giving them some company. Our job was to help them do everyday tasks that they are unable to do because of their various disabilities. It was an eye-opening experience and one that I will take with me for a long time. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me new challenges and opportunities to make me think and grow aswell as battle my pre conceived notions about living/working with disabilities.

As part of the program, we were given the opportunity to go to three workshops on Leadership, team building, and public speaking which helped be broaden my horizons and go through a lot of personal growth. I created a lot of bonds and learned a lot about disability care and how to be a better, well-rounded leader. But in the end my hard work payed off and I was even asked to speak at a boardroom lunch to help get potential investors to fund the program. The past year with nulsen has been filled to the brim with amazing experiences. Working with the residents at each houses has definitely been a highlight of my experience here at nulsen. Getting to know each of the residents. Their interests, their hobbies, hearing their life story has truly been such an enlightening experience.
