Casting and construction E-portfolio response

ORGANISATION

Throughout majority of the process I kept myself on task and meeting my lesson goals. However when we were transitioning from designing our amulets to constructing our final design I found myself off task or not meeting the lesson goals I wanted to achieve. I was making progress however I was not moving at a fast enough pace for my personal liking.

INQUISITIVE

My main influence for my original design was this bird bath I have in my back yard. The bath has green and blue crystal flakes in it and the water makes them shine and it creates a calm and tranquil vibe in my garden. I wanted to recreate that in my amulet however I was unable to get the crystal chips and the only crystals available were more red and multicoloured. So I continued with the original design of the circle amulet and then used the red and multicoloured crystals on top. I wanted to create a rusted and oxidized effect on the copper colour of my amulet so I used green paint to try and replicate that because I still wanted the amulet to look similar to something you would find in your garden.

PROBLEM SOLVING

As I said before the blue and green crystal chips I originally wanted were unavailable so I used what was available to me and changed the colour of my amulet base to match the crystal colours better. When I put the green paint on the amulet to try and replicate the colour of oxidised copper I realised the green was too dark and wasn’t as effective as I would like. I problem solved by mixing the green and gold paint together to make a more accurate match.

CREATIVE

I would consider my final design a success, I would have preferred the original colours of green and blue crystals however I am okay with the outcome. It is not my best work and the green paint kind of gave off an oxidised look but also a mouldy look. I tried saving it with gold flakes however that didn’t really do much overall.
