$20 BOSS: Pop Sockets
Posted on by ithe.jeevanadan
I started my Innovat[ED] journey in term 1 with 2 partners in my group. In short, that group didn’t do any work at all we spent our time in $20 Boss making jokes and distracting and making the people around us laugh and midway through term one I realised that this group could not last for long.
One group member was going to Rosmoyne after the term ended and the other group member was getting moved up to Year 9, so I would be alone in the group when the second term started but for some reason, there was a miscommunication between our group and someone elses’ and we thought that they were in our group but they weren’t but everyone thought they were….?
So term 2 started and on the first day of term Cody Perry came up to me and said to me, “wanna make a business?” And I didn’t really want to say that I don’t have a group or a business so I said yes and our business ‘UNIK’ was born. On the very first day, Cody said to me,” we can pitch today”, and I knew that this was serious because we pitched and we had a business idea ON THE FIRST DAY(the business idea didn’t end up being the final one but it was still impressive).
We did really good work throughout the whole term in my opinion maybe it could be better if we did the work faster but I think we did amazing work and made $90 in the market which we were really proud of we also had one of the highest individual profit in $20 Boss because we made around $30-$40 per person and another group also made $80-$90 profit but they had to split it between 5 people so I’m also really happy about that.
Some capabilities that I had to use in this whole experience were resilience and creativity. I needed resilience because at the start of term 2, I had literally nothing (no group or idea) but I was still determined to walk out with a profit. The product we chose to do was a pop socket and the thing about pop sockets is that the only thing they are limited by, is your own creativity so I had to be creative because I was the one coming up with designs.

$20 BOSS: Custom Cards
This term(term 4), I made a new product with my partner Cody. We called our product “custom cards” and it was a great success. In our first market selling these, we made $70 and in our latest market we sold out for $60. This was an amazing experience filled with important lessons which I’m glad I learned.
Good job! had a lot of fun doing the project with you, and hope we can continue our success.
