For the first 3 terms in year 7, we worked on “Project Utopia”. Project Utopia had many different components to it. One of the main components of the project was redesigning the Fremantle port, for when it relocates to Kwinana. The project was about liveability, sustainability and design. We worked in different groups. Working in groups was a positive experience for me. I got a broader understanding from working with the others. I leant about TEEL paragraphs which has improved my writing. The project helped me to develop my research skill.

Livability Factors:

At the start of term 1 in HASS, we focused on livability factors. We looked at the difference between objective and subjective factors. Objective factors are when it is not influenced by you, your personal feelings or opinions whereas subjective is influenced by your personal feelings or opinions. Knowing this we planned to find the best strategies to make Fremantle port more livable.

The Giver

During term 2, we read The Giver. The Giver is a Novel that is based on a world with lots of rules and rituals that makes a very controlled civilisation. The main character, Jonas was lucky enough to have the special role of the keeper of memories. He had a hard role but his role was to bring enjoyment back to their civilisation for a perfect utopia. This book served as a guide to help us comprehend that a perfect world is impossible.

Our Groups Vision Board:

In order to provide the audience with an understanding of what we were attempting to achieve, we made a vision board with lots of photos and research to demonstrate our study. It was especially for our grand parents.

This Is How We Will Use The Space In Our Future of Fremantle Project

The Future Of Fremantle Report

In our groups from the vision board project, we made a plan with all of our ideas on sustainability, transport and business. The research and planning for the 3 subjects went incredibly well and only a few things went wrong.

Urbanized

Urbanized was a documentary that I enjoyed, it was about improving livability. I watched 2 sections of the documentary, one was about Detroit. Detroit used to be a city with lots of industry and jobs. The industries collapsed so everyone left and Detroit became a dead city, the community had to create community gardens and markets. The other was about a suburb in Cape Town that was dangerous with lots of murder and crime. They designed towers that people could go to and lit up paths so there are no dark spaces, it was a success.

CoSpaces

while we were doing the pitch we also made a cospace. Our cospace had a large shopping centre with a park behind it. The shopping centre also had a large parking lot and direct tram access so people don’t have to use their cars. There is also a gym/sporting area in front of the Shopping centre so people could go and work out after they did a shopping session. we made sure that the whole cospace was sustainable and livable.

Pitch

The pitch was the conclusion of the project, that we had worked on for the past 3 terms. All the parents were invited to come and see their child’s work. We had to talk about the section we were allocated to. Mine was the entertainment category. I was working with 3 of my friends Noah, Kelvin and Zac. I am quite shy so this part of the project was challenging. the day that the parents came we all said our pitches in front of all of the parents.

Conclusion

my reflection on Project Utopia was a learning journey. The Components of the project were, reading a novel, we made a vision board, we did the future of Fremantle report, we watched a documentary and lastly, we made a pitch for the parents. that linked well together. doing the project with so sections created lots of different thinking, learning and discovery. I think I leant more than I realised by doing this project. Overall Project Utopia was a fun project to work on.
