Teamwork on Year 9 Camp

The sky ran dark, but the hint of adventure sparked the air. It was the early morning of the 26th of July, the start of our Year 9 camp in Kalbarri. This was a week of developing many skills and capabilities, especially teamwork.

Camp was a fruitful experience, with many high highs and low lows that helped me strengthen my ability to work as a team and overcome nervousness to make many new friends. Work was a constant throughout our journey, from organising meals to setting up tents so teamwork was essential in everything. Teamwork made our collective load of work bearable and through everyone’s assistance we were able to make the most of camp!

An example of this was during our one day stay at the rural campsite in the gorges by the Murchison river, a few others and I woke up slightly early to start preparing breakfast and split the jobs among us. I went around locating and collecting the food and water we’d need for breakfast as it had been distributed across our hiking packs we took into the gorge the day before, while also waking everyone up and letting them know breakfast was soon. As the others had worked on organising different parts of what we needed for breakfast it was ready in no time and we grew more connected and more developed in our teamwork abilities from this experience.

Another example was cooking every night in our dinner cooking groups. When we created these groups we were separated from our close friends and asked to group up with two other people we didn’t know well. However I couldn’t have been luckier, because I ended up with two kind people, and every night we collaborated well to make a great meal and as we progressed we grew to know each other better while developing our ability to teamwork.

We didn’t make it through camp alone, we made it together, through teamwork.
