Project Utopia Review

What is Project Utopia?

Project Utopia is a Project done by the year sevens at All Saints college to provide ideas for the Fremantle Port redesign that is sustainable for future generations, innovative and new ideas that relate to the global goals. In the last year, I have participated in this event and done the following to get to the end of the project.

The Giver

The first thing we did with Project Utopia was read a book called “The Giver” about a young boy turning 12 in a so-called Utopia community where they don’t see colours or have no choice. when the children turn 12 they get a job but the main character called, Jonas gets given a one of a kind job called the receiver where he receives memories of the past and keeps them without telling anyone else in the community.

Documentary study-

During English, we did an assessment where we had to watch a documentary called “Urbanized” this documentary was about growing cities with problems that may relate to other places, and then they provided sustainable solutions to help improve these problems that other cities could use.

Fremantle excursion

Another thing we did was go on an excursion to Fremantle where we looked at the culture and heritage of Fremantle so we could understand what to incorporate that Fremantle already has into our new design plus we saw the massive size of Fremantle port on our excursion so we knew how big the space was.

Vision Boards

Later on, in term 2 we made vision boards for the different ideas on what elements we should include in our final design our class split up into groups of three and four, and each group made their own vision board. making the vision boards required lots of printing cutting and gluing of images when we all finished the vision boards we put them on display and presented the images and our ideas to everyone’s grandparents.

The Final Product/Fremantle Speech

after all the hard work and research weed done in terms 1 and 2, we finally started on our final product in term 3, which was creating a real-life 3D model of the space and all the things we were including. half of our class was working on the model but the other half were doing cospace where they made a 3D model of a specific feature of the Port redesign online. when the models were done we had to split into groups related to what we were individually talking about in the Fremantle Port redesign and prepare and practice speeches pitching our ideas to family and friends.
