This year I took part in the school sport triathlon. I competed in a team triathlon with two other years nine students. A triathlon consists of a swim, a ride and a run. I did the swim, Jaden did the ride, and Aidan did. We required lots of teamwork and collaboration to complete this race. Our team was competitive, as we were all talented in our fields.
This is the second triathlon that I have done with the school. I enjoy this event because of the competitiveness, collaboration and determination. I feel like I perform better when I am competing in a team as I don’t want to let my team down. This usually means I enjoy it a lot more. This year we placed in the top 10, which was a considerable achievement. Some things I would like to improve next time would include our communication skills, training before the competition and reflection on performance. In addition, our communication on the event day could significantly improve. Throughout the day, we struggled to find each other and communicate important information, nearly making us miss our race. Throughout the event, there was poor communication between the organisers and competitors. Our team was walking around watching other races when we realised we were meant to be at the start line for ours. To improve on this next year, as a group, we will ensure that we keep track of time and communicate with the officials to get the correct information. Overall I found this event very beneficial towards developing my leadership and teamwork skills. I will reflect on the event and make improvements for next year.
