Capabilities development

The capability that I have developed due whilst at school is Leadership and furthered this at the Eagles Schoolboys AFL carnival on the 4th of August 2021. On the day, we drove down to football ovals in Melville and unpacked our equipment. The group of Year 10s selected, had never played before as a team and there was only a few of us who had played football for a club, of which I was one. Upon arrival, we warmed up and tried to settle nerves by having a casual kickaround while we waited for the other schools to arrive. Mrs Steiber, who was our coach, came over and asked for Oliver Macnamee, Hayden Watkinson and myself to come over with her to discuss the positions for our first game, our selection was based on our previous displays of leadership and our knowledge of the game, with all of us having previously played football. The four of us decided on where we wanted everyone to play and how as a team we wanted to play, which was my first display of leadership. This was further demonstrated by my selection as captain of the team. This meant that it was my job to try and deliver messages to the team, be a role model, lead by example and encourage others to play how I would like them to and have some fun; something I am glad to say that I did successfully. Again, I was able to demonstrate leadership in our second game, where we were losing by a significant margin. During the game, I stepped up and took control of the situation and made changes to the field placements to try and stop the other team from scoring. The decisions and actions taken to change the players around slowed down the other teams scoring rate and made it harder for them to get into their forward line. My capabilities to listen, lead by example and make necessary decisions, even in difficult situations, make it easier for others to believe in me and be a positive leader in anything I undertake.
