What is project Utopia

Project Utopia was a project which ran over the course of 2 terms. It launched with a book called The Giver which was about a so-called ‘perfect’ society. Which later lead into us looking at creating our own “Utopia” in HASS we design it like a map, and we allocated each building/place what livability factor it improved. Then in Science we selected our partners to work together to build a sustainable house and in HASS we learnt about The Global Goals and the livability factors which later we found out that they would be important to this project.

Learning area connections?

              English

The learning areas that where involved were English because we read a book called ‘The Giver’ which was about a “Utopia” that some people did not think it was a “Utopia” because The Elders in the book took away the ability to see colour and if a baby wasn’t healthy enough or the babies were twins they would kill them.

              HASS And InnovatED

Other areas that were involved where HASS and InnovatED because in these two subjects we learnt about the global goals which was a very big part in this project because the facilitators (Teachers and Staff)  wanted us to identify what Global Goals we were working on to make this “Utopia”. Also, in InnovatED the experts that came in was very good because they helped us think of other/more effective ways to improve your “Utopia” and the experts helped us practice for the presentation.

              Science

Science was involved because in this subject we built a sustainable house that had to have 5 house designs (Which is if the house is north facing), 10 energy saving features (Which are solar panels), 10 water saving features (Which are rain water tanks), 5 energy saving behaviors (Like turning of the lights after leaving the room), 5 water saving behaviors (Like having three minute showers).

Most important info I learnt during the process.

The most important information that I learnt was that a constitution is important because it sets rues/guidelines for the community to follow to keep the country as good as they possibly can.

What I enjoyed the most?

What I enjoyed the most was the looks on peoples face when I said something, they did not know about all ready.

What aspects did I find most challenging?

The aspects that I found most challenging was the constitution because it had to be constructed at such a high standard.

What I would do differently?

What I would do differently is that I would ask for help with the constitution. This would be because I didn’t understand it that much and needed to take a little more time.
