The Year 8 Woodwork Project was a two-term project, to eventually create a wooden spinning top. It required many different skills and abilities, including using machinery, design, and many more. Once a week we would work hard to complete this task before the end of the semester. Overall, it was a good experience to broaden our skills in this topic.
The Process
It all began at the beginning of Term 1, where we had to go through the many safety precautions to allow us to do this project, as there are many different projects. However, once we had finished our ‘training’, we could begin the design and introduction to our project. This involved the many different protocols we had to follow. However, once this was approved we got to work. Using the machines beginning with th Pedestal Drill, further progressing to the Disc Sander and the Scroll Saw. This would give us the general design of our project, however, it was not finished yet. We had to finalise our project, which involved manually sanding our piece, as well as using Spindle Sander. However, once we were given our spinning top, and it was fully put together, we had a functional project, looking somewhat like the images above.

The Capabilities Used
There were many capabilities we used in order to succeed in this project, one of which including creativity and problem-solving. We used creativity through the many aspects of the design, including the design of our spinning top, as well as how practical it would be and many more. This assisted us throughout the project. We also problem solved in many ways, some involving avoiding obstacles, and overcoming challenges we faced. Overall, these capabilities assisted us throughout the semester.
Conclusion
Overall, this project was an incredible experience to take part of, with us all gaining many abilities and skills of the genre. I think that this is worthwhile, and also worth the time it takes.
